You're absolutely right. Senior citizens should be respected by us teens. Not only do they have more experience but also they should be revered just due to the fact that they have lived a longer time than us on life's journey. The problem is our society does very little to promote that idea, they have people thrown into retirement homes and euthanasia promoted. Plus most teens dont even respect theis parents to begin with, an act that is extremely wrong. But the fact is we teenagers do need guidance, even though it is true that our elders tend to look down on us due to our age, so I would consider that to be no excuse. We should have more respect even though not all of us do. I personally believe they should be treated with the utmost respect because without them, we'd be lost. They are our history of the world.

Most teenagers probably disrespect their elders at some point. Young people just don't have an understanding of perspective. I am 29 now, and when I was a teenager, I thought anyone over the age of 30 was braindead. It wasn't until I started college and had to write about my family's history that I changed my tune.
To sit down with my grandparents and hear the stories about the way they grew up, it gave me what I hadn't had up to that point- perspective. I learned that my grandfather had grown up in a four room house with no running water with 10 siblings, his experiences through the Depression, his times in WWII, sending his own children off to the Vietnam War...wow. I never looked at older people the same way again.
So the short answer is no, teenagers probably don't respect senior citizens. But hopefully we can create more situations for young people to learn about the history behind what they see as just a wrinkled face.

I was taught to respect my elders, and I think if a Senior citizen shows they care and are interested in the teens they will do like wise, you have some bad apples at times but I think the majority do respect older people. And it comes back to how they where taught also.

I have mixed feelings on this subject actually. It kind of depends on who that teenager is. The majority of teenagers think they're all that and that they can smart off to anyone they please, which I suppose is why everyone thinks teens are so bad when that's not the truth. When someone sees me in a store alone, I get a dirty look because I'm just a teenager. Everyone thinks since that since I'm 14 I'm stupid and disrespectful, when that's not the case. And I also think elders aren't as full of knowledge like everyone thinks. They're not any wiser than everyone because they've been alive longer. It's really annoying.
Anyways, that's my opinion on that subject.

I think most teenagers generally respect us oldies. They probably have more of a problem with people their parents age.
We are low on their radar. We get in their way occasionally when they, with youth, health, boundless energy and excitement, are on their way to the next adventure. We might sound a bit pompous when we tell them we've been there, done that, probably twice, and that what they are headed to just isn't that big of a deal.
In any situation, barring criminal or ugly vile behavior, I look at them and try to remember that I was once them, and snicker a little knowing that they will become me.

I dont think we should generalize about teenagers, when my children we in their teens they spent time helping the seniors in our neighbourhood and their friends got into doing it too.
There are many teenagers who volunteer in seniors homes, assisted living, the hospitals, and all sorts of charities.
Everyone belonging to a certain group should not be judged by the actions of a few rude individuals.
I listened to and witnessed my mother and her cronies in the mall going on about the way teenagers dressed, complaining they were afraid to walk past them and so on. Generalizations do so much harm. Why let a few bad apples spoil things for you? I am sure there are thousands of seniors who have wonderful teenage grandchildren.

According to a recent news magazine, the current generation of teens is larger than the Baby Boomer's generation. Businesses are catering to them for their shopping power and influence. It seems logical that a teen ends up with the impression the world revolves around them, which economically it does to a large extent.

Some do, most don't.
I beg to differ with you. Respect needs to be earned. Courtesy, though, is owed to all.
I think the kids believe we're some sort of alien who never felt the emotions they feel or had the dreams that they have. I know we have never had some of the trials they have. It must be pretty scary sometimes to be a teen and think there's no one to turn to for help.
Some things never change. Kids can be cruel.

I find most teens very nice and respectful. I try not to judge the good ones by the few bad ones I have seen.
