There is always a debate where I come from, when it comes to salsa
music.Puerto Ricans say that salsa started in Puerto Rico, and Cubans say that salsa started in Cuba. There is a very old saying
that Cubans and Puerto Ricans are like the two feathers from the
same eagle, which means that we are the same people, but different
culture differences as far as music and other customs.I love salsa music, but I am confused because two different people,Puerto Ricans, and Cubans are giving two different stories of the musics
origin. Can someone bring out the truth for once.I am Puerto Rican
myself by the way.

despite all our modern education, despite all the churches in the country, despite all our great leaders, for some reason this country and its people still cant mix well recially? For some reason, we segregate ourselves. Not quickly, but we do, slowly and inexorably. look at our churches as an example. very little racial integration there. look at our neighborhoods. entire communities set themselves up in districts, slowly but it happens. Slowly, as we as people make that move to be near the people that we are more comfortable aroud. to involve ourselves in those groups that we are familiar with... Dont we have a responsibility to seek out other people, groups, and activities as people just to get to know each other better? Just to become familiar in new surroundings?

I find it offensive when people are shocked that I did not grow up extremely poor, dont like rap, am married to the father of my kids, in college, have money, and own a beautiful home, and I'm Black---why is that so surprising, everyone in a race is not the same.

I really want to stop being racist. I grew up in a family where my father used the "N Word" constantly and always taught us that we (whites) were better than everybody else. Of course over time that influence rubbed off on me. I just want to love everybody for who they are and not their skin color but its so hard sometimes especially when I come across a lot of racist people of color myself. How can I get past this and overcome my racist background and look for the person inside instead of their racial background? Thanks.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1940's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a tin, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking .

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a van - loose - was always great fun.
We drank water from the garden hosepipe and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cakes, white bread and real butter and drank pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem .

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no text messaging, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits/legal from these accidents .
We played with worms(well most boys did) and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

Made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out any eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

Local teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned
HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

And YOU are one of them!

CONGRATULATIONS!

The idea of trying to exterminate a race, religion or political group through mass murder seems to be the worst thing I can imagine. Any politician who incites his people to murder as many of the "enemy" as they can should be tried in a genocide court.

Now I am not talking about wars in which one people defend themselves against invaders but situations like the massacres in Rwanda, Bosnia, and Hitler's persecution of the Jews, Communists, Homosexuals and any other minority group.

After reading about the female astronaut, Lisa Nowak, I often wonder why people go insane with jealousy and throw their great career away?
Read article:
http://www.redorbit.com/news/space/830415/astronaut_faces_kidnapping_charge/index.html?source=r_space

If I had this awesome career, I would never had the gumption of wearing a diaper and driving 1000 miles on a jealousy spree. If somebody doesn't love you, so be it!!

Why do people do these things? It's just dumb!!!

Please give me your answer. Thanxs!

I am 24 years old. When I was in school, very few kids actually cared about education. Not that I was the first one in line for school everyday, but I knew what I was doing was important for my career (despite that my parents did not). Am I right that Americans are becoming less smart?

Why is it that most of the people that I have encountered from that part of the world do not see African Americans as Black. As a visiter in Egypt I have constantly been told that I am not black, I am Arab or Iranian. Is this simply a problem that I have encountered or are African Americans viewed by the Africa and the Middle East as being something other than black. Maybe this issue has something to do with the fact that I am light brown skin, but then again so are just about over half of the population of African Americans; most of my family are either peacan brown or light brown. It is even worst when I have visited certian parts of kenya, some even call me an American white man. I REALLY WANTED TO KNOW HOW IN THE WORLD CAN THEY COME UP WITH THAT CONCEPT BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT ME THAT LOOKS WHITE!!!!!!!!

Did they know that artists and tv are the one who easily can be influenced?
