I am 24 years old. When I was in school, very few kids actually cared about education. Not that I was the first one in line for school everyday, but I knew what I was doing was important for my career (despite that my parents did not). Am I right that Americans are becoming less smart?

i am a sophmore in high school and i definetly agree with you. not to many people at my middle or high schools cared about their futures and did really stupid things. they act like theyre parents are gonna take care of them forever and they dont realize that they need to start thinking about their futures. i admit that i skip school sometimes and im not the best student but i still try to apply myself in school and i think about the future

Oh, there's so many ways... 1) A flawed education system because a) Standardized testing b) Larger classroom sizes c) Teachers Unions - They make money regardless of whether students learn d) A curriculum that revolves more around social conformity and special interests than core essentials 2) A lack of reality from a) Media - Reality TV wasn't reality but made it one b) Propaganda c) Bureaucracy - Tricky to understand but bureaucracy has made reality into a place that lacks good judgment because it creates 'correct knowledge' to situations that are actually subjective and controversial. 3) Extremism - Every day we seem to put more influence on respecting diversity and every day we seem to become more narrow minded from it. 4) Chemical changes - Aluminum in the air, fluoridated water supply, mercury in flu shots, and GMOs in food - our prime essentials are all brain damaging and vary in damage based on a persons resistance. 5) Stupid is sexy and cool (refer to 2) 6) Poor upbringing. Baby boomers are by far the most spoiled generation in recent times and the weakness that comes from it has removed their ability to take responsibility in teaching their kids how to think. 7) Perhaps the biggest one is the military ideology (Dont think, just do what your told) which has extended to pretty much every corner of life we can think of.
