I'm the type of person who if I like someone I give them a gift. Nothing expensive and I'm not trying to get something from them. I'll notice something a freind likes or they mention and probably get it for their bithday or holidays, unbeknowngst to them (like a surpise). There is someone I know who even if I give them something, anything they feel compelled to return the same thing. They accept what I give them, say thanks and a few days later return the exact same thing. I tell them this isn't necessary but they insist. It's like they owe me which isn't what my motive is. Why would someone do this and should I stop doing this or just with this person. Thanks

There is no difference between the different Gods of the world. They represent one thing, and this the divine, and would therefore be a collective.

Yes, they do apply different characteristics to that divine entity, but do you agree that they all represent the divine and shouldn't be looked upon so differently?

I've been trying to find a translation for "fun", "entertainment" or "amusement" in Latin, but there doesn't seem to be one. Is this so? I can't believe they had no word for a such a simple noun. Can anyone translate this for me? Thanks! :)

And if they are rude or without respect is it because they were never taught, schooled properly, or their parents gave them no moral compass, or maybe they were taught but since their status in "their" mind is high, they go about acting rudely and poorly?

“Women are more gullible and therefore more likely to be lead astray, so they had/have to stay under the care of men.”

This was in an answer to my last question and it was from a woman.

It seems clear to me this person does not know the women I know.

I read the definition of agnostic. The impression I get is that an agnostic is just an indecisive atheist. I fit in this group by the way. It seems that saying you're agnostic is just a less offensive way of saying you're atheist. I'm not being a prick. This is a serious question.

Whoever thinks this is very sadly mistaken.

-------------------
Identifying Samhain as a Celtic Death God is one of the most tenacious errors associated with Halloween.

Almost all stories about the origin of Halloween correctly state that Halloween had its origins among the ancient Celts and is based on their "Feast of Samhain." But many conservative Christian authors which are critical of Halloween, Druidism, and/or Wicca have stated that Samhain was named after the famous Celtic "God of the Dead." No such God ever existed. By the late 1990's many secular sources such as newspapers and television programs had picked up the error and propagated it widely. It is now a nearly universal belief, particularly among conservative Protestants.

Modern-day Samhain is the day when many Wiccans believe that their God dies, later to be reborn. [Wicca is a Neo-pagan, Earth-centered religion.] Thus, Samhain is not a God of death; it is actually a yearly observance of the death of a God.

Christians...How do you know the Rapture didn't already happen hundreds of years ago, and the we're all actually currently living in the Devil's earthy reign right now?

I post this question not to antagonize, but to start a real discussion....I mean, who really knows if it didnt already happen right?

I need to write a sermon for a serivice next week, and i was thinking of using a pack of cards as an illustration. I'm unsure how to go about writing a logical sermon using them. Anyone got any ideas? (i.e. ace represents one God etc)

Even though almost all atheists and agnostics have differing points of view, I have yet to be flamed by either for my beliefs (or lack there of) where Christians often argue amongst themselves over seeming meaningless details in the bible. Why is that?

on the Global Corruption Index, a survey of 133 nations conducted by Transparency International (an anti-graft watchdog). A score of 10 means a country is seen as being 'highly clean', and a score of zero means 'highly corrupt.'

How come more secular European countries are less corrupt than the USA?

The least corrupt country in the world was Finland, a very secular, Scandanvian country. Finland scored 9.7 out of 10. Bangladesh is the world's most corrupt nation with a score of 1.3.

Poor countries with political unrest are typically more corrupt. Here is where the USA ranked among the rich Western nations.

Finland- 9.7
Iceland- 9.6- Denmark
New Zealand- 9.5
Singapore- 9.4
Sweden- 9.3
Netherlands- 8.9
Australia- 8.8
Norway- 8.8
Switzerland- 8.8
Canada- 8.7
Luxembourg-8.7
United Kingdom- 8.7
Austria- 8.0
Hong Kong- 8.0
Germany- 7.7
Belgium- 7.6
Ireland- 7.5
USA- 7.5
Chile- 7.4

I have to preface this because it contains a question about homosexuality. I have 4 very close people in my life who are gay and I love them with everything I am. I am not flaming gays.

With that said,
If only a small fraction of us are born gay, is this considered a birth defect like lets say dwarfism? Is dominance inheritance a key player within the evolutionary process when it comes to genetics? They say that 60% of birth defects come from unknown causes, so if it isnt a mother's environment for the fetus, its genetic. If it werent a birth defect wouldnt more of us be born gay? How much of a role does evolution play in this? I know this is alot of question and I should be charged 15 points, anything you can give me infowise is appreciated. Serious answers from informed individuals would be ideal. I posted in here because alot of you seem to be informed on topics like this. This is not a question for flaming others, thank you.

I'm interested to hear what you think the morality behind capitalism is.

For example:
Do you think it discriminates according to race, creed, sexual orientation, gender? Is it oppressive or is it liberating?

Is it individualist or communitarian?

Do companies truly reward loyalty? Do they have your best interests at heart, as a consumer?

It would be good if you could draw on examples from the most capitalistic and competitive markets such as the press/media, music industry, technology, fast food etc.

Also how do these markets compare to smaller, less competitive ones?

Any unique examples you can think of that reveal a "morality" to capitalistm?
