Beatings of slaves, wives and children use to be common place, even up to as late as a few decades ago. I assume there are some guidelines as to what kind and how thick the wood of the cane should be.

Jason. That's about a meter and a half long. How thick?

Gaila: No dear, that's "canning". Not "Caining", for that would make me an En-Abeler. Mind your twisty fingers as you hype (damn).

for "caning" (sic) people I think you should use glass containters wood is not appropriate.

For caining I prefer a branch of the weeping willow. But my prefernce is poetic, not biblical.

don't know about the answer to your question but you do have the correct word caning is 1 : to beat with a cane
canning is 1: to put in a can : preserve by sealing in airtight cans or jars

3 cubits of Gopher wood

Go with the rule of thumb. At 3 cubits, you want it thick enough so that it won't snap in half, but thin enough that it stings.

All I know is when I get married, my husband can only use a stick the width of his thumb...

Oh, wait, that doesn't apply to me. I've got the Second Ammendment!

Edit: You know it!
