Religion has become more of an advertisement campaign than a way to find answers

What I mean by this, is that I've noticed that whenever people are facing a challenge or rough patch in life, they turn to religion to help them along. This can be great in many ways, and I AM NOT knocking the idea. I do however wonder why a drug addict can't kick an addiction for his/her own self, or a rape victim can't get through for themselves instead of for god.

I mean NO offense with this question. I just never understood why AA or other programs have chosen the word of god (mainly christianity) to pull people through, instead of teaching them to look deep in themselves to get by. I am so lucky to have myself to thank for getting through rough stages in my life. Why don't more people have faith in themselves???

SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE!

O.k. so according to "The young people's ask book." Masturbation is a sin since it encourages "unclean thoughts." But dont you think it is dangerous to restrict sexual urges? I mean, if you dont unload during the day, your just going to when you fall asleep. Wouldnt you then have to say that dirty dreams are a sin? C'mon now, that is pretty messed up. I mean, I can understand being against fornication, but masturbation is just a healthy, stress relieving way to release sexual tension. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. And if there was, 99% of the population are sinners.

Why not look at the question for its merits and try to answer it truthfully instead of acting like a politician who knows everything. Is this how you wish others to treat your questions? And what are you afraid of anyway, that the truth may be different than you think? I appreciate good answers, and take them fully into account even when they disagree with me completly. If what you think is the gospel truth, then why don't you start asking the questions and seeking the answers that may help to bring this nation, and its people, a few steps closer to being on an even keel?

According to orthodox Jewish interpretation, God literally dictated the Torah to Moses. But how about the other books of the Tanakh? Were they also dictations from God, or were they inspired less directly? Or are those books considered to be simply historical accounts and writings?

doesn't that mean that what existed before was supernatural (by definition)? And if science can't explain that, is it unreasonable to say that science can't assess everything that's going on now?

Isn't this like role reversal where she will wear the pants in the family? And then he goes out and buys a ring later?

Isn't the guy supposed to do this if he truly loves the woman?

Is it proper or appropriate for a company in the United States to fly the flag of Mexico in their front yard just because they have another facility in Mexico? They also have a U.S. flag right next to it. It just seems that the Mexico flag shouldn't be flying on our soil on an even level with U.S. What do you think?

Half the world — nearly three billion people — live on less than two dollars a day.
The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the poorest 48 nations (i.e. a quarter of the world’s countries) is less than the wealth of the world’s three richest people combined.
Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.
Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen.
1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day).

So tell me, why do you suppose God chose to bless YOU? What makes YOU so special?
There's billions of people who could use some answers...
