Society & Culture - 18 January 2007

A lot of Armenians never talk to, much less, hang out with people of different races. They are always speaking in Armenian and rarely in English. Even the ones born here speak English with a heavy accent. Whenever I approach one to speak to them, they are usually friendly and nice; so I don't see why others wouldn't want to hang out with them. Someone please explain, thank you.

Any one got some reasonable suggestions in regards to people using our driveway as a short cut for walking their dogs, themselves and on the odd occassion when our car isn't there their car. I've actually been out the front gardening when they just walk straight through how rude is this. We live on a corner and the police said there isn't much they can do about it which I understand. It's driving me nuts.

Im curious about something. See when I was growing up, my dad always put me down by saying that I hung out with people younger then me. For example I would be 13 and have friends that are 11 or so then 14 years old, have friends that are 12. Now I'm 26, and feel that all my friends have to be my age or older. I hang out with people in their 40's and feel comfortable, and it seems that society is ok with it. Now if I want to live in a college dorm, they people would look at me funny and say that people in dorms ages are from 18-20, so why would you hang out with people like that? I'm like is there a big difference? My question is why do people look down at others who are friends with people who are younger?

With all this worry over political correctness how long do we have until we cannot call things what they are?Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep?

Obviously it's horrible to discriminate against anyone for anything. But, while people get arressted for racism is there any law against other kinds of bullying? If you call a fat person fat, will you get charged? NO! Why not? It's just as bad.

It won't be long until we are all clones of each other just going along with what we're told. No longer will people say what they think for fear of offending someone.

With the knowledge that we have as a developed country, we're fools for it

Frankly, I can fill this space up with examples.

and whenever they do acknowledge it they always lump it into some crazy combination of Spanish, German, Dutch, Irish, and Native American blood, instead of just listing the cold-hard truth, Mexican.

I dont know if it's Hollywood and their racism that covers it up because they feel it's unappealing to the masses or the actors themselves.

I've been talking with and very much involved with a guy for nearly 2 years now. At first when he and I got together I was very skeptical, because of our age difference for one thing, he's 27 and I'm 38, and another, because of our color, he's white and I'm of course black, but as time went on we managed to get passed all that and grew so close that we even said things or "jinxed" alot and even referred to one another as "soulmates". Like any other couple we often argued alot, but nothing too serious where as we didn't eventually talk and work things out. Other than that we were happy. But recently we had a very big falling out, and went for days without speaking to each other, no more than a few emails trying to still place "blame" on each other. But this argument felt really different from any of the ones we've had in the past. He has a friend,(married,female,22), that started to "slander" me and make judgements,making things worse. We talked tonight,but should i be worried?
