i know each person has a different opinion on this, i'm just curious if any athiests believe that we have the power to create our experiences, both indivdually and collectively. it follows the law of cause and effect but on an esoteric level.

First of all, the day that it was proven that the Earth is not flat and that Sun does not revolve around the Earth was the day that the concept of the "Twelve Houses of the Zodiac" that segment the horizon became false.
The fact that a person was born at a certain time of year with the planets in a certain position does not predispose them to any kind of particular behavior as there are too many other variables that are at work in a persons life as they mature for that to have any kind of effect at all.
And standing at a jewelry counter and listening to seemingly intelligent people discuss which stones are compatible with their astrological sign in the year 2006 is indeed a sad commentary about how far we have progressed in dispelling ignorance and superstitions since the dark ages.
The Earth is not flat!
The Sun does not revolve around the Earth!
Alignment of Planets cannot predict the future!
Horoscopes are not accurate!
So why do so many people still believe in Astrology?

I have noticed my religion-curious questions have often been met by contempt or the advise to "feel something". I am not religious and tend to respect others for who they are. Yet I am often met by religious folks who look down on my ideas and lifestyle. How come? As far as I know it should be religious people practising respect! Is that respect limited only to like-minded souls?

Can someone please give me the correct conjugations of "decir" in Spanish please!! :) I communicate in Spanish sometimes at work but I always have trouble conjugating this verb correctly and I do not want to say the wrong thing. After all, Christmas isn't the only holiday being celebrated this time of year. We have Yule, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, probably others I'm not even aware of. Even if not, There's still three others besides Christmas. So why are some people so mad about stores and such saying Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings instead of Merry Christmas?

They're only being fair, after all. It'd be pretty presumptuous to say only Merry Christmas when not everyone celebrates the same holiday. So why throw a fit and boycott stores that are being fair to everyone and force Christmas to be the only holiday recognized by stores when it's not the only holiday being celebrated?

I'm not saying everyone goes to this sort of extreme. I'm an atheist who'd rather be wished a Happy Holiday, but I don't start suing and boycotting anytime someone says Merry Christmas. I just don't see what all the fuss is about when stores are trying to be fair and neutral to all customers and whatever holiday they happen to celebrate.

I just don't understand what is so hard to get? Nature is filled with failed attempts at existence. Why do species go extinct, while some live on to pass on their genes?

What is so hard about natural selection. You do know that we have genes and DNA right? So why can't you believe that some of the weaker or less usefull traits die off, while the stronger traits get passed on? Instead you create a complex explanation based in fantasy and faith?

I just don't get why all the resistence to the world being round?
