Here is an excerpt of its contents:

"This is a position that is close to my own heart; indeed it forms the basis of my book Fingerprints of the Gods. There, however, my focus was exclusively on the last 20,000 years and on the possibility that an advanced global civilization may have flourished more than 12,000 years ago only to be wiped out and forgotten in the great cataclysm that brought the last Ice Age to an end.
In The Hidden History of the Human Race Cremo and Thompson go much further, pushing back the horizons of our amnesia not just 12,000 or 20,000 years, but millions of years into the past, and showing that almost everything we have been taught to believe about the origins and evolution of our species rests on the shaky foundation of academic opinion, and on a highly selective sampling of research results..."

QUESTION: WHY HIGHLY SELECTIVE SAMPLING??

The title quotation is part of an answer received on my previous question..."I'm an atheist in love with a Christian....advice?" Here's the link.http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Amvq5hZdwBOkMtv1LFJNOmbzy6IX?qid=20061101100442AAqW7HX

He's completely understanding of my beliefs...we met through this forum. He does have a relationship with God, and I respect him for that. I understand his reasons.

I'm curious about something though....Why would it be assumed that I should change my way of thinking to his?

I don't care to change, and I wouldn't want him any other way. Isn't acceptance, not judging others, a part of Christianity?

Why would it be suggested to me that I change?

Interesting is it not. Though I would want to know where this conclusion came from. I read an Article, or Blog if you will, about the opinions of a man, who he claimed was a psychologist. Didn't state facts, figures or sources, but what he said was interesting.

He stated that most women are not attracted to the physical part of a male, but to the materialistic part of him. The more "stuff" the man has, the more the woman would adore(love) him. He also stated that women generaly seek men who they feel can provide security and stability. After finding this good willed male, the female tends to become a tyrant as he put it. Demanding from her mate and denying him too. Slowly draining the life essence from his body. Thus he concluded that the reason women live longer than man is because they are Materialistic, Life Sucking Leeches.

What is your opinion?

In Ephesians 2:8-9 Paul writes: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." In fact most of Ephesians 2 is dedicated to the concept summarized in these verses.

In James 2:17 and 2:20, James writes "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." and in 20: "But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? " James dedicates all of James 2 to explaining the role of works.

James and Paul seem to be saying different things. Are they at odds with each other theologically? Can they both be right? Any help for my Bible study is appreciated.

In all sincerity, what is it w/ you folks? You don't ever hear of Buddists or Jews or Muslims or ANY OTHER largely accepted religions but CHRISTIAN religions (all of them, Jehovahs, 7th Day's, Mormons etc, etc) and Moonies trying to convert people. Seriously! Why do you do that? Are you SO insecure about your beliefs that you feel if you don't propigate it that it'll die off? Please enlighten me b/c no other widely accepted religion but Christianity feels the need to convert the world so desperately as you guys do.

This is a serious question. No flame intended. I am asking....

I see religious fundamentalism as a serious threat to human rights around the world. What are ways to weaken a fundamentalist's ability to convert people?
History has shown that people who are downtrodden have a greater tendency to convert to a fundamentalist view of a religion. While this may provide short term benefits to the convertee in making them happier, it has long term consequences in terms of close-mindedness and isolationism, which leads to more serious problems, usually including violations of human rights.
Do you think that fundamentalist conversions could be prevented by uplifting the downtrodden, and if so, how do you do that? (Yes, I know that is a tall order...)
Or do you think that there will always be people who are a combination of weak-minded and power-hungry enough that they will fall in with any teachings that give them an upper hand (even if its at the expense of others)?
This question is aimed at religions in general.
