In all sincerity, what is it w/ you folks? You don't ever hear of Buddists or Jews or Muslims or ANY OTHER largely accepted religions but CHRISTIAN religions (all of them, Jehovahs, 7th Day's, Mormons etc, etc) and Moonies trying to convert people. Seriously! Why do you do that? Are you SO insecure about your beliefs that you feel if you don't propigate it that it'll die off? Please enlighten me b/c no other widely accepted religion but Christianity feels the need to convert the world so desperately as you guys do.
This is a serious question. No flame intended. I am asking....

I find christians to be the most obnoxious about it so that's why I am still asking. Thanx tho for the reminder of the asinine things they do. Peace-

Noble Angel: So you do everything the Bible tells you? You perform sacrifices & all other manner of things that're basically outlawed in today's society? I don't think so. I'm not buying your explaination. You folks pick & choose what you want to believe from the Bible now. And you need rethink your whole preaching to the unconverted philosophy. You might make more friends by living a good life & thereby being a good example like Jesus suggested.

esoreinna: You do all that within your own family like a normal person, that's how. Do you want your neighbors coming over telling you how to live your life? No. You let them live they way they want & teach your own children your ideals & hopefully they grow up to be decent people & teach their children like you did b4. Your idea only isolates people if they don't feel the way you do which leads to poor self image & depression.... perhaps worse behavior. You don't miss what you never had so until some jerk makes fun of you for it, you probably don't think about it. Why can't you just be YOU and enjoy your life the way it is w/o preaching? THAT is the crux of this question....

Suzie D: My question is no attack. If you answer, I do have the right to remark so here it is.... you say you are told to spread the word so you should "enlgihten" your own children & family that you have influence over... not the world in general. Would you like it if I felt the need to make you believe any other religion? I'm thinking not. Your pompous answer also makes me believe this is a power trip for you. You feel like you're so right you're allowed & obliged to tell every1 else what you think is right. How very noble of you to care ab out me & my minions.

Most, not all Christian type religions take the words of Jesus and run with it. Jesus said "Go and share the gospel of salvation with the world...."
The Main problem is not sharing there faith, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with people, but failing to live up to what Jesus taught.
Share your faith, your religion through your actions. Actions speak Much louder than words! And people are always watching carefully those in certain religions that "Talk the talk, but that do not walk the Walk !!!"
Hypocrisy runs wild within Many churches today. In all actuality it is not even the church, but certain individuals all around the world within churches.
Most Christians try to convert others with words because this is the Only way they interpret the Great Commission Jesus Gave.
Individual within churches have a Big problem with judging others, crticising and gossiping, which is a sin. It is even done to others within there own religion.
Jesus said, "Don't Judge!!" Period. Matthew 7:1-...!!
The best way for a person of Any religion or non religion to get his or her view across (in my opinion)is to simply live a life of Lovingkindness, Compassion toward others, Forgiveness toward others, Tolerance of anothers religion, and No judging others whatsoever!! If a person is interested in what they have, or believe, they will come up to you and ask you questions.
This shows respect toward all mankind, if one simply lives the Life without hypocisy, without judging.

So I think you need to look at each major category to answer that question.
Buddhism teaches multiple paths to enlightenment so part of the journey is finding the way. There is no need to evangelize because that would be counter to the point of charting ones own course.
Islam does engage in missionary work on a person to person level. I have been told by my Muslim friends that I need to seriously consider what the faith has to offer. Of course the more radical fringes teach that those unwilling to convert get the privilege of dying at the hand of a believer; I can't say what kind of teaching program one can opt for with a sword to the throat.
Christianity as followers of Jesus Christ are following his teaching to the apostles to go and teach the World. Jesus taught that he was "the Way, the Truth, and the Life" and that we ought to love our neighbors. It makes sense that if Christians truly love their neighbors and truly believe in Jesus that they would want to share that knowledge with others. Unfortunately, like radical Islam, Christianity at times has taken a "convert or die" philosophy. The bottom line is that by definition, testifying of Jesus is one of the things that makes Christians, well, Christians.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to get a householder to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!
That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.
(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.
Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

I am not a hardcore.
I seem to find though, that those who preach and share their faith are doing so in an effort to quell the cracks or lack of faith within the preacher him/herself.
It is easier by far to convert someone to make yourself feel better about your belief than it is to re-evaluate them and either change yourself or your beliefs.
I think the movie Dogma said it best when it said:
"He (jesus) still digs humanity, but it bothers Him to see
the **** that gets carried out in His name - wars,
bigotry, but especially the factioning of all the
religions. He said humanity took a good idea and,
like always, built a belief structure on it."
"Having beliefs isn't good?"
"I think it's better to have ideas. You can change
an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. Life
should be malleable and progressive; working from
idea to idea permits that. Beliefs anchor you to
certain points and limit growth; new ideas can't
generate. Life becomes stagnant. That was one
thing the Man hated - still life. He wanted
everyone to be as enthralled with living as He
was. Maybe it had something to do with knowing
when He was going to die. but Christ had this
vitality that I've never encountered in another
person since. You know what I'm saying"
I know people are gonna disagree but the world and the univserse was created to be in constant motion and always changing so if you cannot or will not change you will be left behind and miss out on Life.
For those who say it is because Jesus told you I would reply he never ever said "get in peoples' faces and make sure you tell them they are horrible unless they do this specifically". Jesus said the way was through him but in NO WAY did he specify people had to be "christian" just follow his basic teachings such as love, kindness, truth, justice. Jesus never said you needed oil or palms or to do anything but follow the Way..which can be done thousands of ways. So your whole "we want to save you ffrom hell" is kinda debunked according to the teachings of the one you profess to follow.

First of all if your sincerely asking a question, it shouldnt sound like an attack on those you are questioning.
No, we are far from being insecure!!!
We have thee ultimate confidence through our Lord Jesus Christ.
We follow the example of Christ and his disciple's.
We are told to spread the Word of God.
We share the gospel story out of love for Christ our Lord and for those who do not know Him. For He wishes none to be lost!!!
We share the words of salvation as it is The Great Commission.
We do these things to 'enlighten' others.
To bring them to truth and light.
Because we so love God that He fills us with love for others so that we teach others about Him and the gift of salvation.
When your filled with love, and know truth you want to share it with others because you want them to experience the same.
In the world and time we live in we know time is short and we must reach all those we can, because the day will come when it will be to late.... there will be a time when He says "Enough" and if your not with Him.... when He comes you wont get a second chance. So yes there is somewhat a "desperation', or rather a real urgency to call those to Christ who are lost.
LOL... by the way..... we will never die off!!!
Hail King Jesus Who Reigns Forever!!!

Actually, there is a widely accepted religion that feels the need to convert the world more desperately, they are known as Muslims. They bomb unbelieving neighbors and homes of conflicting beliefs. Their Quran encourages conversion by force.
That aside, these people, for one reason or another, desperately need something to believe in. Many of them get social needs met through these organizations, acceptence and a sense of self-importance. That's why they do it.
They ignore other religions out of fear of being outcast by their newfound group of friends and supporters who would consider it a sin to consider the lies of other religions.
Bottom line, they are getting needs met. They found something to believe in and others who believe in them. For this, most people will do anything, even kill or sacrifice their own lives. Just ask any committed muslim.

I am a One God, Jesus name, Apostolic, the original Pentecostal
I believe what the apostles taught, before the council changed things in 300 AD (about)
I am not Protestant or a Trinidadian
and the need to witness is a command of the Lord Jesus Christ, simply because this is the only way, the only truth,
I know what i just said is not popular but it is the honest answer to your question
Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
PS who said anything about sacrifice? Jesus Christ fulfilled (ending) those laws. Acts 2:38 is the plan of salvation. and we do follow exactly what the Bible says. Im sorry is you do not have an understanding of truth.

There are many know religions in the world. Speaking for myself, yes I have heard of many.
Do I try to convert souls....no way!
Following Christ I know I can't convert souls only God can do that.
Being Christian is following Christ and there is only one "Way".
Who made division/denominations, man.
Muslims also have division (they are killing each other in Iraq)
