I really don't see the point. There are countless possible gods, what makes you so sure that yours is the right one? And "faith" isn't an answer. If a scientist simply said that "faith" was his (or her) reasoning behind something he would be laughed at and fired. All religions claim that there god is the only one, seems like they're just competing for the sheep.

Also, yes, there's the chance of risking an afterlife of torture by not worshippin a god (or worshipping the wrong one), but there's no proof that shows an afterlife is anything more than wishful thinking. Why not try to enjoy life now? Seems like you could think of better things to do with your time than waste it on some book full of lies and plotholes.

Also, isn't it just a matter of time until modern religions go away? They'll be laughed at like Zeus, Cupid, and Venus. Just seems like Christianity, Judiasm, Islam, and etc... are nothing more than fads.

So, what's the point other than engaging in wishful thinking?

I mean if we stuck to old traditions like so many people seem to want to on homosexuality issues, women wouldn't be able to vote, blacks wouldn't be free, it would be socially acceptable to physically abuse women, women would generally be considered inferior, only white males owning property could vote, we would still think the world was flat, we'd use leeches to suck the blood out of people as a method of healing, freethinking or unwed women would be called witches and killed, a lot more species would be extinct, there would be no America, tea would still have heavy taxes (haha), and I would be burned alive for not being Christian. Feel free to add to the list.

So why do people resist change so much?

By the way, how many women are offended when a man doesn't take his hat off in your presence? And how many people are offended by flip flops because it shows your feet in public? How many parents punish their daughters for wearing jeans? Just curious.

I try to throw myself back into life. I try to help those I can. I reach out to family and friends... ...but all I need do is think of her and the tears flow, the pain wells up, doesn't matter where I am or what I'm doing.

Everyone says time heals all wounds, but my father died forty years ago and the wound never healed.

How do I let go of my best friend and lover after so many years of happiness and bliss? How do I keep her in my heart when it brings so much pain? How can I give my heart to another, when so much of my heart is wrapped around her? How do I resolve all that was unsaid and unresolved?

I don't want to hear about Jesus and heaven. She wasn't christian, and Revelations 21:8 makes clear the fate of those who do not believe in Christ (and yes, I -do- know her beliefs, intimately).

How can I heal?

We rent a house in a nice neighborhood. Apparently the people who rented before us were the same age, but were horrible and disrespectful to everyone. Their dog even killed 2 dogs in the neighborhood we found out. But, obviously, we don't do anything wrong, or out of the rules of the neighborhood. We drive 5 mph, don't throw parties, and are always cautious of kids playing on the street. ALL of the neighbors around us hate us, call the association to complain and yell at us when we come home and leave. I refuse to give up and leave because of them. I'm thinking about posting harrassment flyers on their doorsteps. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do to fix this problem???
