We rent a house in a nice neighborhood. Apparently the people who rented before us were the same age, but were horrible and disrespectful to everyone. Their dog even killed 2 dogs in the neighborhood we found out. But, obviously, we don't do anything wrong, or out of the rules of the neighborhood. We drive 5 mph, don't throw parties, and are always cautious of kids playing on the street. ALL of the neighbors around us hate us, call the association to complain and yell at us when we come home and leave. I refuse to give up and leave because of them. I'm thinking about posting harrassment flyers on their doorsteps. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do to fix this problem???

They might still think the horrible kids still live there. I would maybe try to introduce yourself to your neighbors and let them know that you know about the horrible neighbors that were there before and you just wanted to clarify that you are not the same people.
Maybe bring rice krispie treats...

This is a tough problem. To me it does NOT sound like a "nice neighborhood". I would never, never move into an area with a home owners association. I despise them. There is something un-American about them to me. If I can't plant a bush or paint my house without getting someone's approval that severely restricts my freedom and invites some jerk with a Napoleon complex to act like king of the neighborhood. It almost never fails that a small clique forms that make life miserable for those outside the clique. If I had to stay there, I'd put up a flag pole with the American flag on it and if they said anything, I'd take them to court. Meanwhile, I'd be looking for another place to live. Life is too short to live somewhere that your neighbors make you miserable.

Take some time to introduce yourselves to your neighbors. Start with the ones that live on either side of you. Find something nice about their yard you like (and can start a conversation with), then approach them. Say something like "Hi. We're Mr and Mrs Smith. We moved in next door last week. I noticed your roses. How do you get them to bloom so much?" Make small talk. Get around to inviting them over for drinks or cake or something. Once your neighbors on either side know you, they'll start spreading it to the rest of the neighborhood. Then your other neighbors will be more approachable.

Call the HOA, get a metting with the president, explain the situation to them, let them know that you are not the previous tenants, and you really need the harrassment to stop. Also you should introduce yourself to the neighbors and let them know that the bad people have moved away. You should also talk to your landlord and ask him to say something to the neighbors and ask them to leave you alone.
If all that fails call a lawyer!
I too have had to deal with crabby neighbors since we moved into our house. We moved into a 55+ community and even though my hubby is 59 I am only 46, and people give us all kinds of crap! Also my neighbor to one side want to buy my house for a lot less than it is worth, and he is pres of the HOA, so there is a lot of bad feelings about that!

i have the same problem.the ppl before me were horrible. So far just being nice, waving when they go by even after a few times of turning their head they are now waving at me!I have extra plants ihave taken next door and low and behold..this old bat actually says hi to me first!not that okward hi either, before i even see her.The others are coming around too. Then out of the 9 houses on my block.....4 are sold, going up for sale or just moved in like us.So it won't stay that way forever even if they never come around. As far as yelling at you ......you ever say anything to them?talk to them,go over there and tell them straight up you want to ask if they have any problems and get them aired.Your grown, dont' play games, confront them, not to start and arguement but to ask why they seem to have a prob with you.putting flyers out will just agravate it more

It's not fair that they would judge you by the former renters. If what your saying is true that you are good neighbors and don't bother anyone, I have no clue what their problem could be. If I were you I would just ask straight out , what have we done to you? It all sounds kind of weird. Are the other neighbors older than you? Perhaps they just don't like young people period. Good Luck!

I have some of these problems with my neighbors. Call the police and report any and all incidents. Get it in writing with the police department. The police will get tired of them and do something about it. I'd watch my back with them they might damage your property. They are TRASH. Trash is rotten. I am thinking about moving. Good Luck to you.

Invite them to a backyard barbecue of hot dogs and hamburgers as a peace offering so they'll see that you really do want to get along in peace with everyone.
