I get together with a guy every few weeks and he’s had a tough life. He was raised in a Christian home and was a committed Christian. He says he was a nerd growing up. He was abused at home and was picked on at school and church. Even pastor’s son would beat him up. As a young man he started losing his eyesight and was hospitalized. His parents, pastor and “friends” told him that God was punishing him and that if he prayed and repented God would heal him. He would know he was forgiven when he was healed. He never was healed (he is blind in one eye). He became depressed and suicidal. He was committed to an institution. There he was raped repeatedly by a worker. He literally escaped and started living on his own.

He says, “God hates me.”, but he’s afraid to give up on Christianity. He says church or even hearing the name Jesus makes him feel physically ill. What do you say to this sort of person? Would a loving God send this guy to hell if he can't make his peace with Christianity?

Sorry didn know where to catergorize this:.............
Me, I'd strap it to my childrens wrists so that if they were ever in danger it would temporarily freeze the area around them to give them enough time to run home.......As you can see can be anything real or imaginary, or even futuristic.......

I'm not sure if I'm the only one like this, but whenever I'm at home I always feel people are watching me through cameras. I've even checked my rooms and stuff to make sure. And my mom thinks I'm crazy. But I can't help it. And I especially feel afraid while changing or showering. Is it just me?

It seems like firemen have more moustaches than the average population. Nicholas Cage grew a moustache for his upcoming 9-11 movie where he plays a fireman (and he looks rediculous in it in my opinion.) Even fireman toys!

So lets hear from the firemen out there. Whats with the moustaches?

p.s. im not saying they look bad or anything. im just curious

We already know that the Hindu Jesus is a naval gazing wimp and that the Jewish Jesus at best is a misunderstood Rabi, and at worse, the son of a Roman soldier if his existence is even accepted at all.

When the anti-religous, who resent when the religous insist their views on others, insist their views on others, are they being hypocrites? Are they not doing exactly what they claim they hate?

To me, it'd probably have to be the story of Noah's Ark. I mean, think about it. Noah collected two of every animal in the world? There are several million species of beetle alone. Add in every single other species of animal in the world, and you're going to need a boat several hundrid times bigger than anything we could possibly make today. And how did he keep these animals alive? Many animals are very fragile and need specific foods and living conditions, or they'll die. Did each species of animal have it's own climate controled living pen, as well as enough of it's specific food to keep it alive for 40 days and 40 nights? Where did the millions of pounds of animal dung go?
And I'm not even going to go into the complete impossibility of a flood that covered the entire world so that even the tallest mountains were underwater. I think you all get the idea.

So which Bible story is most unbelieveable to you? Please don't just say "God existing," that's too easy.

My neighbor and I became very good friends, but I don't entirely trust her. She always is trying to 'psyche' me out by telling me lies and seeing if I buy it. I don't really care for this, but how do I tell her--it's like a game to her. Then when she is in a bad mood, watch out! It's hard to deal with at times. She always does all the talking and it's hard to get a word in at times. When it's her and I the conversation can go okay but when another person comes along she ignores me and talks to them. When she's talking to another person she doesn't wait to let me speak. I have a soft voice and she has a loud one--boy can she be heard! When we have meetings of all residence in my apartment building she again does all the talking. I get so close to telling her to 'shut the f*** up', but she still is a friend. She has a lot of really wonderful qualities but it's just that I don't feel equal with her a lot of the times. How do you handle people like this?

There are people arroused by sexual role playing. There are people who are arroused by sexual pain. There are people who are aroused with pornography. There are people who are arroused by children, (as DISGUSTING as that is). There are even people arroused by animals (demented).

With so many sexual fetishes, why do some believe homosexuals deserve special treatment? Isn't homosexuality just role playing? Isn't it just men arroused by acting like women, and women by acting like men?

The whole chapter, actually, should be read. It's couched entirely in parabolic language. It's set at the end of the world.

This isn't really a question regarding religion, but the intersection of religion and politics.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but doesn't every American citizen have the right, privilege, and obligation to have a say in "our" government, regardless of his/her religious affiliation?

This sort of statement truly terrifies me, because it shows just how deeply intertwined religion and politics have become in the U.S.

Ok, like everytime I have gotten on here Bono is asking how to end world poverty. Does it not seem kind of ironic that someone with a ton of money is asking the average Janes and Joes of the world how to end world poverty???

So in genesis, God created Adam and Eve. These two people who knew not the concept of good and evil. Our definition of someone that is not capable of knowing the difference between good or bad is labeled crazy, or insane. So you have two crazy people running around in the woods naked. Then to top it off God tells them not to eat the fruit of certain tree. Does this seem right to you? I mean I don’t know about you but I would guess two crazy naked people running around in the woods would not have the presence of mind to know what to eat let alone know that they are not supposed to eat an apple from a certain tree. I don’t know, just seem a little sadistic to put two crazy people in a situation like that and expect them to obey you. So am I to take this as God hates crazy people? Or does he hate sane people, for once they ate of the fruit they knew of right and wrong, thus becoming sane, then God boots them out of paradise.

Serious answers please.

How do you understand?
Hebrews 5:8: though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.

How can he learned obedience through sufferings?

I am trying to understand some scriptures, I would appreciated also some recommendations about online resources and material for my personal bible studies.

Thanks for your help.
