I use history all the time in my daily life, especially when i watch the news. it makes me a well informed citizen and enables me to recognise trends in government, economics, religion, and other things that mature and change over time. If you dont know your history you are entirely subject to the whims of the government in the present. Im willing to bet that you think the constitiution actually has 'seperation of church and state" written into it and that the 4th amendment only includes your house, not your car or your person. already you are a slave to the government! you have no connection to the past, therefore you cannot accurately predict the future based on trend analysis.

Not knowing the past will only cause people to repeat the mistakes of the past.

To know the future, you'll have to run and win the next election to be GOD!

If you are going to Public School, then don't worry about the History. The only thing they are teaching you is Lies and revised history the NEA is forcing the schools to teach. Things like Columbus was evil. He only found the new world so he could infect the natives with diseases to kill them off. How about George Washington and Thomas Jefferson being evil men cause they owned slaves. It doesn't matter to them that we would still be a British Colony if it wasn't for those men. You will learn lots of garbage like that. Hopefully, when you go to College you can learn true History.

No one can predict or know what will happen in the future but we don't want to repeat the same things in the past again.

When we learn history, we learn what our families and ourselves are made of. We learn the horrible mistakes that happened and we learn WHY we should acknowledge them so we can never make those same mistakes again.

For example, in the future there won't be slavery because we learned that is was a horrible racist thing that was unjust. We learned that Hitler's horrible error in racism which led to the Holocaust led to mass destruction of lives and pain.

And besides, don't you like to be remembered for something amazing you did?

History always teaches us the credit and hard work people went through as well.

Overall, history teaches us not to make the same mistakes again in the unpredictable tomorrow and to remember what happened yesterday.

the future hasn't happend yet so how will you learn about it? History is very important in our lives. We need to know what happened back then. I look at it this way, with History and all thats happened we can somehow predict whats going to happen in the future.

1. If you dont know the past, you wont learn from the mistakes of the past
2. The past tends to repeat itself
3. You will understand the present and the future if you understand history, and understand it well
4. You are just plain ignorant if you dont know history.

Because the knowledge of the past helps us to make better decisions in the future without hopefully making the same mistakes from the past.

To understand why situations occur you need to know the history of it or you will be doomed to repeat the same mistakes. The future is not yet written what would you learn.

I used to think the same way.
To teach history today for tomorrow is possible, but it will lead to emptiness (who, what, when, why).
The old folks said, 'History repeats itself'. Actually, it is true!
What has been taught in the educational & religous institution, is the partial truth. What you read, will always be controversial. It is entirely up to you (& the like of you), to challenge what is being taught to you.
The protests and riots were very violent. It was also, a demand to teach about a particular race and culture. etc....

We are linear. This means that everything that will happen tomorrow is because of what we do today, and everyting we do today is dependent on what we did yesterday. That being said if we take the time to learn our history then we can better attempt to understand the why and how of the problems we encounter now and tomorrow.

history can be fun to learn...although something about the way they go about teaching it in school takes all the fun out of it. did you know George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both brewed beer on their estates? did you know that Ben Franklin liked to fool around with the ladies? Did you Know that until the 1950's the dollar bill and the pledge of allegiance didn't mention God?
