Ok, like everytime I have gotten on here Bono is asking how to end world poverty. Does it not seem kind of ironic that someone with a ton of money is asking the average Janes and Joes of the world how to end world poverty???

Hey... has anyone ever thought about what would happen if world poverty ended??? Billions of ppl wanting cars, fridges, housing, TV's, puters??? The world would collapse.

That's why ppl like Bono are appointed to campaigns like this one. Will make a small difference but won't change the balance. End of today's reality lesson.

Not really, as the average Jane and Joe have a huge combined wealth in comparison to Bono by himself.

He can serve as an organizer, informant on the problem, call attention to it, and get people roused to do something about it--politicians will listen better if hundreds of thousands of people complain, write, call for something to to be done. While as an individual, Bono can do only so much regardless of his fame, fortune, or the esteem in which politicians hold him.

Not really, no. I'm sure he gives lots of money to charity. I'm not a big Bono fan, but it's true that just because he's a celebrity, he can do a lot to help causes just by getting his name attached. I don't see what's wrong with somebody wanting to do some good. And as an example of a celebrity, I have a lot more respect for him than for some ******' rap star who just brags about what kind of car he drives, or what kind of champange he drinks! Bono is certainy pompous, but at least he's not shallow!

Are you shocked that Yahoo is going to try to hype a newer section of their website by getting a celebrity to ask a question? Then are you shocked that they make a big deal out of his question? He really doesn't care that much about our answers.
Also, just because he has money, doesn't mean he can give it away and it fixes the problem. The poverty he is talking about is the millions and billions of dollars that governments owe each other. That money is much more than he has, or will probably ever make.

What? Are you asking him to spread his own money around the world to end world hunger? He can't do that, if he did that then he wouldn't be able to grandstand and speak against world hunger. Nobody would want to hear form him if he gave away all his money.

Incidentaly, using DDT in Africa would do a lot to curb World Hunger and would save millions of lives. Stupid enviormental organizations lobby against it though. This is because in the 50's and 60's the US used of undiluted DDT to kill bugs which also wound effect other more desirable animals such as birds.

DDT if used correctly and responsibly would save crops and would all but eliminate Malaria.

also. i think it is very presumptuous of us to think we can end a problem that has gone on for ...well i don't how long it has been going on, as long as human existence...10,000 years? maybe? but Bono is going to solve it in his lifetime? get real...it will probably take 10,000 more years to implement the solution even if we knew what the hell it was. But I believe birth control is a big part of the solution...if you look at the differences between developed and third world countries it is the wide spread use of birth control.

uhhh... no. he's not asking anyone how to do it, he's asking people to get involved to do our part. even if you don't have money to give, you have a voice to use. make your voice heard. that's what he's asking you to do.

why is it ironic that a rich guy wants help in ending world poverty? what, is he supposed to only ask other rich people to help or do it himself? it's a cop out when the average janes and joes don't get involved while claiming to be helpless.

It should be admirable that someone who has a public voice is using it to get a message out like this, as opposed to the negative publicity we see about people like Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson et al. To be able to lobby governments to help end a poverty problem should be applauded as opposed to mocked.

Nowhere near as ironic as Naomi Campbell, Claudia Shiffert and Elle MacPherson opening a restuarant in NYC.

What do supermodels know about food? They haven't eaten since 1979.

Jesus did say that the poor would always be with us,but I don't think that He was implying that we shouldn't take an interest in bringing folks out of poverty. It seems that our job is to help others less fortunate than ourselves to get out of their difficulties, "...strengthen thy brethren" as He told Peter.
I've always felt it wise for people with a large public voice to do their part to shake folks out of their complacency. If Bono can be used of God to shake this careless generation out their self-absorption,then so be it.(yes,I know you might say that he's not a preacher, but God can inspire anyone to get up and speak a timely word to those who need to hear it,no matter how unlikely the speaker)
