Samuel Butler, an English author said:

"Belief like any other moving body follows the path of least resistance."

Do you agree or disagree? Why?

Of all the writers of the New Testament, only Matthew and Luke mention the virgin birth. Had something as miraculous as the virgin birth actually occurred, one would expect that Mark and John would have at least mentioned it in their efforts to convince the world that Jesus was who they were claiming him to be.

The apostle Paul never mentions the virgin birth, even though it would have strengthened his arguments in several places. Instead, where Paul does refer to Jesus' birth, he says that Jesus "was born of the seed of David" (Romans 1:3) and was "born of a woman," not a virgin (Galatians 4:4).

What gives? Didnt the story get through to all of the apostles? Was it only a miracle to Matt and Lucky Luke?

I've met people of many religious backgrounds, but considering that Christianity is the majority religion in the US, I see more Christians than not. However, I've seen a wide variety, and some who didn't act very Christian at all. Only once have I met someone, a young woman. After a long debate, I considered her a true Christian; truly following her faith. What is a true Christian to you? How do they act? How do they treat others? Do you feel you are a true Christian? To clarify my definition of "true"- someone who follows the Bible, believes strongly in their religion, God, and Jesus, lives their life, everyday, according to their beliefs, and most importantly, acts Christ-like towards others- "do unto others as you would have done unto you."

To hear people blindly accepting religion despite its contradictions and philosophical impossibilities? After reading the answers from some of the Christians in here it's no wonder that Nietzsche was a nihilist...

Honestly though, you people are supporting an institution that imprisoned Galileo for 'heresy' when he claimed that the Earth revolved around the sun. Oh, and then there are the salem witch trials. And the Spanish Inquisition. Of course there's always the argument that 'God is perfect, man is not...' Enter philosophical impossibility. If God is omnisicient and omnipotent then there can be no such thing as free will. Let's face it, people do not have an infinite number of choices that they can make regarding their lives. (No one can choose when they are born, or to whom, or many other things) Therefore, even though God can not force a person to do anything he has complete control over when/where one is born, and accordingly knows how any event will affect them.

I see a lot of questions by people asking why being a gay is a sin. The try to justify being gay by pointing out that there are worse things they could be doing (probably true) or calling anyone who won't condone their homosexuality names. If you are so convinced that being gay is good then why do you keep begging for our approval?

He had a name tag on his shirt that said "Jesus"... I was struck speechless by the way he sat in the chair without moving about or looking around, which I took as proof that he must be the messiah. Was I right in following him home, hoping to hear some words of advice? he didn't speak english but his parents - their names were Jose and Maria - said I was crazy and wrong for following him home from school... but I feel called to do so! What should I do?

To a God not bound by the limits of human practicality, every tiny part of your body would be as action-packed and meaningful as the parts of any rock or tree or bug. And the sum of your parts that form the personality and life we find so special and amazing would seem neither special nor amazing to an omnipotent being. It is absurd to define God as omnipotent and then burden him with our own myopic view of the significance of human beings. What could possibly be interesting or important to a God that knows everything, can create anything, can destroy anything. The concept of ‘importance’ is a human one born out of our need to make choices for survival. An omnipotent being has no need to rank things. To God, nothing in the universe would be more interesting, more worthy, more useful, more threatening, or more
important than anything else.
Is there anything wrong with this thinking? (Atheists, I know you will say it is all wrong since there's no God, assume there is and then tell me).
