To hear people blindly accepting religion despite its contradictions and philosophical impossibilities? After reading the answers from some of the Christians in here it's no wonder that Nietzsche was a nihilist...

Honestly though, you people are supporting an institution that imprisoned Galileo for 'heresy' when he claimed that the Earth revolved around the sun. Oh, and then there are the salem witch trials. And the Spanish Inquisition. Of course there's always the argument that 'God is perfect, man is not...' Enter philosophical impossibility. If God is omnisicient and omnipotent then there can be no such thing as free will. Let's face it, people do not have an infinite number of choices that they can make regarding their lives. (No one can choose when they are born, or to whom, or many other things) Therefore, even though God can not force a person to do anything he has complete control over when/where one is born, and accordingly knows how any event will affect them.

That means that God has complete control over your entire life by controlling it initially. People are powerless. God knows exactly how I will turn out if I am born into an atheistic family or a religious one. If I am a boy or a girl. He also knows exactly what I will do with my life (making the whole concept of life on Earth pointless from a religious perspective) depending on my situation.

No, actually, I don't have any idea how frustrating it is. I've accepted that it's their choice to do as they wish with their lives. Believe it or not, there are people out there who can speak about their religion without parroting popular verses and perky blessings. What I find frustrating is the religious imperative to convert and the inability to peacefully accept someone else's choice not to believe.

Some people have actually chosen Christianity after thinking about it and studying on it.

Though, it might be interesting to find out if the ones that pop up with regurgitated rhetoric and glossy bumper sticker slogans are ones that were taught that they had a choice between god and hell, not between Christ, Jehova, Krishna, Allah, the Great Spirit, so on and so forth.

Faith is faith. If faith is scientifically proven, its not faith anymore. Part of what makes it faith is the willingness to make a leap into the unknown.

Its not so different from great scientists that felt certain theories were true, and kept working on them even when people scoffed at them.

Having said that, why do we need to prove Christians or anyone else wrong? I understand the idea of not putting a person's religious (or lack of) ideals in the face of another who isn't interested in hearing them. But I would argue that trying to make a Christan not believe their beliefs anymore is as rude and uncalled for as a christian that wont lay off an atheist trying to get them to convert.

Just look at Calvary.Joh 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Blindly accepting religion is of course the basic need in alot of people to explain their existence in the universe and their destiny. Going to heaven for eternal bliss and being with your relatives for all eternity is very appealing over, when you die you die,no more, no less. People want more out of life than just the paltry few decades they are allowed on this planet by their weak human frame.

I can see your point. Yes, the Lord does know all of these things, but He still gives us a free will to choose how things go, even tho He knows what those choices will be!
To be in communion with a God like this just boggles my mind, to be in prayer with a God like this, wow! To have a God like this to call when I'm in trouble, wow! Yeah! Now this is exciting!

Do not, repeat, do not try to make sense out of religion. It will not stand up, not even close. You've pointed out numerous logical questions and those are only the tip of the iceberg. If you want to accept any religion you must do it on faith. The big F word.

True that. It's really frustrating when those beliefs get in the way of making our society better. I could care less what they believe in their hearts or who they pray to, but when it prevents teen-agers from being taught proper birth control, or stops stem cell research, I start to care a lot.

What does it matter to you what other people believe? I'm an atheist and it doesn't affect my life in any way if someone else believes in God. Quit being so intolerant.

Take a breath and move on. People believe what they will believe. You aren't going to change anyone's mind by calling them fools. You aren't going to change anyone's mind on Yahoo. The world needs less people like you and more people who live and let live. Peace and love my friend.

I believe in God, love His son, and my life is full of peace, joy and fulfillment. My life is His. He is kind, merciful, forgiving to me. He will never leave nor forsake me. One day I will be with Him forever. Sorry that frustrates you so.
