Is it a sin to eat meat?

2006-07-20 21:54:28 · 45 answers · asked by BOB 1 in Religion & Spirituality

The only response is "read the Bible, then you will understand"

I have read the Bible, many times in fact (right now I am on Ezekiel for the fifth time) and it seems more made up than ever this time through. But wait, once I say this someone will say "but the bible isnt our religion, it is having a personal relationship with Jesus" Bullshit, your religion IS the Bible, and I want you to prove to me otherwise if you dont believe it.

Are you mad because God gave you a choice to reject him or because he placed you on a planet with other who are free to be evil?

How could God give you free will to love or hate in a better way than he did with the planet Earth situation as we know it?

what if there is no god..what if when we all die..we just die..there is no light..no heaven or hell just the inside of worm stomachs..and no more life for you..what if life formed from evolution and could just as easily be "nothing"...what if this life as we all know it..is all there is for us?

Well, Mr. Bush has regrettably afforded us an example. Despite the pleas of the American people who see hope in stem cell research, he vetoes for the first time in his presidency. Why?

Soley for religious reasons. The same reasons that are used in protest of abortion.

All arguments against stem cell research originate from the argument that once the egg is fertilized, it has a soul. But many do not agree with this. Some cultures think that infants need to live for a while before it's considered a person, before their version of God assigns a soul to the child. This certainly doesn't fall in line with their beliefs.

Since Atheists don't even believe that the soul exists, they of course are going to be upset by the veto because it's based on a concept of which there is no empirical proof.

Religion has imposed its will upon unwilling participants.

This is evil.

Anyway, here's my question:
Are there any non-religious reasons to deny stem cell research?

I know it seems a dumb question on the face of it, but think about it and explore the drivers behind your gut reaction. Equally, it doesn't have to be a positive reaction.

Let's face it, reality sucks. I mean look around; government these days is literally comprised of a bunch of murderers stealing life under the guise of "Terrorists are going to get you." Husbands and wives cheating on entire families. Public school systems spewing anti-God messages. Blacks acting as if they don't have a chance. America no longer has a border.

REALITY SUCKS.

I am seriously thinking about INTENTIONALLY making myself delusional. I am thinking about supporting George Bush and having an affair with the next woman I come into contact with. I mean, WHY NOT? The whole freaking world has gone crazy.

Morals are meaningless and even though I've not been the best person in recorded time, I certainly do not fit in this time in history. I must therefore CHEAT REALITY by ignoring it, before it KILLS ME.

Thoughts?

Little Johnny came into the kitchen where his mother was making
dinner. His birthday was coming up and he thought this was a good
time to tell his mother what he wanted. Little Johnny was a bit of a
troublemaker. He had gotten into trouble at school and at home.
Johnny's mother asked him if he thought he deserved to get a bike
for his birthday. Little Johnny, of course, thought he did. Johnny's
mother, being a Christian woman, wanted him to reflect on his
behavior over the last year, and write a letter to God, and tell him
why he deserved a bike for his birthday. Little Johnny stomped up
the steps to his room and sat down to write God a letter

LETTER 1:

Dear God,

I have been a very good boy this year and I would like a bike for my
birthday. I want a red one.

Your friend,

Johnny.

Johnny knew this wasn't true. He had not been a very good boy this
year, so he tore up the letter and started over.

LETTER 2:

Dear God,

This is your friend Johnny. I have been a pretty good boy this year,
and I would like a red bike for my birthday.

Thank you,
Johnny.

Johnny knew this wasn't true either. He tore up the letter and
started again.

LETTER 3:

Dear God,

I have been an OK boy this year and I would really like a red bike
for my birthday.

Your friend,
Johnny.

Johnny knew he could not send this letter to God either. Johnny was
very upset. He went downstairs and told his mother he wanted to go
to church. Johnny's mother thought her plan had worked because
Johnny looked very sad.

"Just be home in time for dinner," his mother said. Johnny walked
down the street to the church and up to the altar. He looked around
to see if anyone was there. He picked up a statue of the Virgin
Mary. He slipped it under his shirt and ran out of the church, down
the street, into his house, and up to his room. He shut the door to
his room and sat down with a piece of paper and a pen. Johnny began
to write his letter to God.

LETTER 4:

I'VE GOT YOUR MOM. IF YOU WANT TO SEE HER AGAIN, SEND THE BIKE.

Signed
YOU KNOW WHO

No man on earth knows if anything in the bible really happened because no man was alive to see it and tell us about it
Everything Is here is hear say, People think they have a pretty good idea but no one can be 100% sure anything is really true.
I really like lots of the bible and it sounds devine but god said ( It's our obligation to question everything ) and thats what i do.
He said many will come in my name and many will be deceved , Hes warning you! he said MANY not a few people.
So look around who are the many preaching his name, religon
They are deceving you christans have been brainwashing you for 1500 years and you cling to every word.
Thet have no say over your salvation you do, they said this to extract money from you over the last1500 years
Keep your tithing and give it to your community food bank or other local support group.
If some one tells you that you need to pay to hear the word of god grab your wallet and get out.
You cannot buy your way into heaven.

NOTE: In light of the fact that there is a type of scism taking place at Medjugorje, the Bishop said on Corpus Christi, "Therefore I responsibly call upon those who claim themselves to be “seers”, as well as those persons behind the “messages”, to demonstrate ecclesiastical obedience and to cease with these public manifestations and messages in this parish. In this fashion they shall show their necessary adherence to the Church, by neither placing private “apparitions” nor private sayings before the official position of the Church."

(The full text of Bishop Peric's homily can be found at http://te-deum.blogspot.com/2006/07/homily-of-bishop-ratko-peric-of.html.)

In situtations like Medjugorje, I always think of what St. Ignatius said: "Where the Bishop is, there is the Church, and where the Church is, there is the Bishop...Where the Spirit is, there is the Church, and where the Church is, there is the Spirit of God."
