It used to be the church 'mission' to 'save your soul' and they had alot of ways to 'save' you. if you did not want to be 'saved' then it was 'death unto you'.
The church also inserted pagan believes to 'gain souls' and to make transittion easier.

Without killing people nowadays what do you think are the extremes that the church will go to?

Hi, I will try this again. Last time I asked, some anal born-again Christian with a closed mind responded something ridiculous....

Ok, I wanted to know what makes Jah Rastafari a god in the eyes of the rasta people of Jamaica.

His real name was Tafari Makonnen and he became known as Haile Selassie the First, emperor of Ethiopia.

I want to know what he did to make him deserve the status of god among the rastas. Plain and simple.

NO PREACHING OF ANOTHER RELIGION, NO TELLING ME THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE.

I need open-minded people who are interested in all religions and who know what they are talking about. If I could get a real Jamaican or a rasta practitioner that would be the best.

Thanks.

Catholics ARE Christians, you know. We were the FIRST Christians and the ONLY Christians whose Church goes all the back to the Apostles and who have the fullness of the faith.

If you doubt this great fact, than please check out the history of the Catholic Church against the history of your very own church.

Also, you might want to check out the writings of the Church Fathers in regards to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

In a country like China and India, where population is the biggest problem and small family is a must, what should a couple - desiring for a second or third child - should do? Fullfil their personal desire or do their duty to their country (though there is no law against large families) ?

1. What is the colloquial form of these questions?
- 何ですか? (Nan desu ka?)
- どこへ行きますか? (Doko he ikimasu ka?)
- 何をしますか? (Nani o shimasu ka?)
- 好きですか? (Suki desu ka?)

I only know these "polite forms", so I'd appreciate if you could convert them into colloquial forms.

2. I do know the following "colloquial question"...
何をしてるの? (Nani o shiteru no?)
What does it mean?

3. Finally, if you want to tell someone that you love him...

How do the particles work around "suki da"?
For example, if you want to say "I (watashi) love Anohito"... what particle would you use with "watashi" and what particule would you use with "Anohito"? And how do you fit these around the compound verb "suki da"?

Thanks a lot!!!!

(Don't worry, I'm not about to write a love letter. I'm just asking... :-p) ^_^

Why pray? If it changes God's mind then he is not sovereign. If it does not change God's mind then it is superfluous.

Many groups use unethical persuasion tactics in recruiting and retaining members. These methods can range from love bombing to scare tactics (imposing high exit costs, e.g. convincing a person that leaving the group means losing one's salvation).

What is your definition of salvation? What do you think it requires to get into the kingdom of God? If you confess your sins to a priest, are you allowed to confess them to Jesus by yourself? Do you talk to God and pray when you're alone at home by yourself?
Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Psalm 69:13
But I pray to you, O LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation.

Isn't it OK to pray by yourself?

PS. This is not a dis on Catholic. I really am open to hear why you go to priests and have other questions as well.

I am not Catholic, so the way I understand how the religion works is: 1) you go to confession to confess your sins, 2) the Priest tells you to say a # of Hail Mary's and Our Father's) and when you do these things, you will be forgiven.

However, the way I see it work in San Antonio, Texas, is Catholics think if they do these things they are forgiven and can do these same sins again.

It is MY belief that you ONLY receive forgiveness if you are TRULY sorry that you commited them and you promise not to repeat the sin. If you continue to repeat the same sin, God says, "Hey, you don't really mean what you say, so NO--you are NOT forgiven."

Your comments?

Religious folks sometimes like to say that atheism is all about ego, because we rely on our own reason and conscience rather than submitting to what is supposedly the word of a god. However, it seems to me to be *massively* more egotistical to think that you are the Special Creation of a deity, that you're spoken to by god himself, and that the entire universe exists just for your benefit, than to accept that you're just the accidental product of an undirected natural process in a vast unthinking universe, with no special significance.

What do you think?
