I'm curious about this and would like to start a serious, non-emotional discussion about why you think so few women are in science. Here's one of my theories:

As a science and math guy in high school, I was squarely in the 'nerd' category, which brings on some level of social alienation. I basically accepted my lot and made friends with mostly other nerds, but even some 'cool' kids as well, who accepted I was a 'nerd'.

I think that girls are more vested in the social aspects of high school, and fear alienation more than boys do. This may cause some girls to avoid math and science and the mild social consequences that comes with it. Just a theory I'm putting out there.

Any thoughtful opinions are welcome, even controversial ones.

Please, no highly emotional, knee jerk responses.

How do you feel about homeless people and those living in poverty? Do you feel they were put in that place or put themselves in that place?
Personally, I think it is ridiculous because there is no excuse to live like that with the opportunities that are given to them.

Why do people bother to answer questions when the poster clearly knows they're being rude and inappropriate (like racist, sexist, otherwise ridiculous questions) rather than just ignoring them and letting them expire unanswered? Why waste time trying to explain how retarded they are?

I found out about the case involving the murder of a pregnant woman (Jessie Davis) and her 9 month old fetus. The alleged participants were her boyfriend Bobby Cutts and a friend of his.

If these people did it, then why would someone do something so cruel as to kill another innocent human being? What did the pregnant woman do anything to deserve being killed by someone she trusted?

Are there any criminology experts or criminal justice majors that can help shed light on this?

Being older often makes me wonder if the younger generation feels intimidated by our age and knowledge. Do you feel this way? I have returned back to college to get my master's degree so I can move up the latter because I feel I need to keep up with the pace of technology and the wealth of knowledge. How do you feel about this?

A corespondent on CNN asked this question and I thought it was a really a compelling one.
Suppose you get an emergency phone call late at night and you absolutely need to be there, but you cannot take your 10 year old son for some reason.
Say you have two neighbors that you know superficially but not really well.
One is a single male who lives alone, and the other is a single gay male who also lives alone.
They are your only hope of who to leave your son with, and both are willing to help you in a time of need.
Who would you feel more comfortable leaving your son with?

You are a 22 yr old mature young female that lives with two girls that are 20 and 26. The 26 yr old treats you like a stupid retard and a stupid little kid that knows nothing of life. YOu confronted her and she lied the first time. The second time she treats you like you're stupid and a little kid she said "I treat you like you're stupid because you talk and act like a little kid!" She keeps saying she's sorry but she goes back doing it again.

She's the onlyone in your life that treats you like you're a stupid retard or like a little kid. Everyone else thinks you have potential and is very brilliant. You go to your parents' days at a time to help babysit your neice and you hate going back,. You just moved in with her almost two months ago and it got worse when you moved in with her.

Suggestions?? You're not rich enough to easily move somewhere else.
