What are some social problems in the world today?

I'm doing a paper for one of my sociology classes and we have to pick a social problem and write about it. Any suggestions? I know poverty, drugs, and alcohol are all social problems but I want something not everyone will write on. Thanks

One of the social problems that I have found exceedingly trying over the past few months is greed, followed by laziness in second place. it's a daily occurance to hear new stories of crimes fueled by greed or selfishness. For example, take a look at the guy that sued the drycleaners for $54 million because they lost his pants. There simply is no other explanation for his action other than greed. Everyone wants to make a lot of money doing absolutely nothing. A great example of greed and laziness rolled into one big problem are all the signs you see on the side of the road stating "make $200,000/year by sitting at home" or "lose 40 pounds by eating chocolate". Many people don't want to put in the work to get whatever they want, so their greed causes them to cut corners.

Population explosion in the third world and also amongst poor Muslim nations. Unfortunately, nobody is paying attention to this huge issue and people are talking about non-issues like gay marriage.

Domestic violence and homelessness. The 2 are also directly related, as many homeless women and children are the victims of domestic violence. A paper on the relation between them would be very good. Also, the prevelence of domestic violence is increasing rapidly, along with homelessness. Both are becoming epidemics in our society.

if it were me i would write on gender issues. i know that the topic only goes so far but it could be sort of interesting...

my husband is a teacher and the woman who teaches Womens Studies at their high school made a good point at a lounge discussion. She said the kids sitting in the library are very shocked and offended by the N word; and understand its severity and would never dare to say it. But they freely use words like B*tch and "my hoe" to describe girls that they like. they don't realize that both words are equally severe and unacceptable. it made me think. it is sort of true in our society.

the growing rift between rich and poor im mean the buffer zone of the shrinking middle class in the workplace and education the shrinking middle class neighborhoods pretty soon their will just be poverty areas of a city and affluent areas im having trouble making scense of the point im making but mabye youll get the point
