I think Mother Culture has nibbled away at us for over 30 years. Mother Culture is a cruel wench. She is the one that makes it mandatory to have 35 thousand dollar weddings, and 2 thousand dollar per person proms.
She's the one that convinces people they are helplessly out of touch if they don't have the latest gadget or clothes or car. Of course her Brother Greed is just as bad. He is the one that causes people to live way beyond their means when buying a house. He's the one that pits one economic class against another.
But probably the worst offender is Father Guilt. That is the person ( us, the current parents of our kids) that wants to shower his children with all the worthless goods possible as a means of demonstrating true love. This is also called the "ME" generation and pretty much started with my generation. I am well past the mid 30s. Closer to mid 50's, but basically WE make this life the way it is. WE can all change it any time we want. Just takes a little practice.
( I have not sounded this profound ever in my life and it's not in my nature to do so since I am usually happy and not morose.Or could just be my same old BS)

I'm in my late 30's and I love the modern life. Its great. Well, apart from the music. Thats crap. It all sounds the same. And the clothes young people wear. Have you seen the jeans young men wear today. They hang half way down their arses. I mean, whats that all about. And the girls are so foul mouthed its disgusting. Every ones fat cause they eat all the wrong foods and spend all day watching dvd's or playing computer games. Global warming is gonna kill us all if you don't drown in a flood first. It wern't like this when I were a lad. No. We had respect for our elders and you could leave your back door open. You wouldn't do that now. And the police would give you a clip up the ear.We had the birch. Ahh, the good old days.

When me and my best friend were in our teens, we all ways said that we would jump off a bridge when we reached 30, joking of course. :)
We just didn't want to be old and miss out on all the ridiculous antics that we were revelling in at the time.
Now im 34 and starting to go grey and have the onset of a pot belly.
Wheres that bridge !!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhh help me please!!!!!!

Although I'm in my late 30s, I'd say 1990. After that, the music was crap.

When you realised you were too old to enjoy it and instead start to critise the 'kids' ("he's 18? 'e looks 12 to me!) who are now enjoying it instead of you...
