I don't consider myself extremely shy. I do great in small groups and I'm very upbeat and talkative most of the time. However when it comes to speaking in front of a group I get really nervous. I'm 16 and I have a little more control over it now than I use to. Am I the only one who gets nervous with a shaking voice when I have to speak in front a group even if it's 8 people? I'm working on it, but I'd like to know I'm not alone in this. Thanks

I've just started Uni and there's a really good looking guy who goes to my Aikido club, he is slightly older (don't worry I'm 18) and I really want to talk to him. He seems really quite reserved to be honest, and doesn't talk much, but I just want to get to know him!

Trouble is, I'm lacking greatly in confidence! Does anybody know of any ways in which to build self-esteem? I'm not ugly, and people say I am pretty but I only feel slightly confident when I have a couple of drinks in me, and I'm the last person to resort to drinking to build my confidence up!

So therefore, just looking for tips and advice about building up confidence and self-esteem as I haven't even spoken to this guy yet and already I'm writing myself off.

I'm 17, I feel sad all the time, and eating feels like a chore and an effort. If I do eat, I feel really full and even more sad, and the food tastes tasteless. During this past week, I went 2 and a half days without eating and not even feeling hungry. The other day my college tutor took me into my office took me into her office and said I looked depressed and tiered. She also said I look like i've lost a lot of weight, and that I look skinny, and fragile, and that my coller bones and hip bones stuck out too much. Looking at it, I have lost some weighy. I'm 5'8", and naturally a UK size 8-10, now i've dropped down to a size 6. I didn't go into college yesterday because I felt upset. Is this depression or is it just a teenage phase?

I believe that my boyfriend's mom is suffering a Mid Life Crisis. She has all the "symptoms" in the above article. She has suffered the loss of her daughter and mother in the same year, my boyfriend is on the verge of turning 21, she's been drinking (she never used to), she's been very concerend with going to the gym and her apperance, she feels out of love with her husband, and she is constantly shopping for new things (like out of nowhere she just had to have a new vehicle).

Other than counseling, which she is already going to, what are some ways to help her out and get her life back to normal? Her family only wants her to be happy, they want her to realize that discovering herself doesn't mean that she has to lose them and all the other things that have already made her happy for so long.

Have you ever experienced this, or been close to someone that has? What are good ways to help her and support her to get her through this?

I am on a waiting list of 2 years to start nursing school and thought I would get an associates in psychology in the meantime as I wasn't sure of which profession I wanted; nursing or therapist. But I don't want a "throw away" degree. What can I do with it?

My mum's under the impression that drinking kills brain cells, I believe this too, but I believe whatever you lose, you can grow back? I mean why not, I don't know how correct I am, please do correct me if I'm wrong for anything I say, thus why I'm doing this; but I want to know if some really smart people in history have been alcoholics, or drink a lot, if you can... it's not compulsuary, but can find refrences or 'sources' as the term is used on this site. Thanks.

I have heard a lot fo people claim lately "All people fear death..."
And that is not true. Because I dont fear death. Whats the point in fearing something that is coming no matter what you do?

Yes, I would prefer to not die in PAIN I would prefer to not die TOMORROW, but I dont fear it.

Who else does not fear their dying day?
Who does?

Woke up on the wrong side of the bed and were really moody? Just wondering if a lot of people have had this experience. Today I woke up really cranky. The problem is I can't even point a finger at just one reason why I am mad. I just have had a few things stressing me out and today I woke up mad about everything. Being stuck and traffic just added to my frustration. I went to get me a cup of coffee and some breakfast. Hopefully that helps.

Say someone was born without a brain. Would they have died? Or would they just have been paralyzed? I know this may be a stupid question but I'm not thinking straight. D:

People have individually attached in several kinds of attachment not only the materials: money, car, brand names but also subjectives: fame, ambition or even kindness. All attachments are the cause of suffering. Which one is the most? For me, I have a problem about competition. I hardly accept to lose; in the past I tried to beat every enemy and competitor. But now I realize this is the suffering path because it evokes some evils such as jealousy, anger, desires, and other negative minds, and accept to be the loser.

Do we fail to recognize the good in others?

2007-10-03 22:16:02 · 6 answers · asked by Bobby K 3

If you are accused, and you deny the crime, and even pass a lie detector test, and the court convicts you...afterward they insist you admit to the crime. Their thinking is that if you don't admit to it then you are in denial and will not be able to be cured. The counselors, attorneys, and judges say that all guilty people deny their crimes....so does that mean all innocent people admit to their crimes? Does anyone here have an idea of how to figure out how to deal with this kind of thinking? After all, it is the thinking of the American Justice and Correctional Systems.
