I'm 17, I feel sad all the time, and eating feels like a chore and an effort. If I do eat, I feel really full and even more sad, and the food tastes tasteless. During this past week, I went 2 and a half days without eating and not even feeling hungry. The other day my college tutor took me into my office took me into her office and said I looked depressed and tiered. She also said I look like i've lost a lot of weight, and that I look skinny, and fragile, and that my coller bones and hip bones stuck out too much. Looking at it, I have lost some weighy. I'm 5'8", and naturally a UK size 8-10, now i've dropped down to a size 6. I didn't go into college yesterday because I felt upset. Is this depression or is it just a teenage phase?

Please confide in someone you trust, if that is a doctor then so much the better. Don't be afraid to ask questions, there is no such thing as a silly question, there are only silly answers. Please eat, even if it's only a little, but you really must. Forget the appitite, even if you don't feel hungry you must still eat. It's very difficult to say if you suffer from depression from just one message. We all feel sad, lonely or depressed sometimes so that feeling is quite normal, not eating is different. Confide in someone close to you, a problem shared is a problem halved. Good luck. Andy

Hi,

If you feel sad ALL the time maybe you should go to the doctors and tell him how you feel, he will have a better idea than most of us. Personally, I think you sound abit depressed, but then again it could be something else, maybe a bug or something thats put you off food and because you haven't been eating you feel tired, etc. I don't think you should be going days without eating, so somethings wrong somewhere.....Phone for an appointment now.

It sounds way more serious than a phase. As a matter of fact, if someone is concerned enough to say something based on your physical appearance, it is way past a phase. There is a deeper issue here. What about life are you dissatisfied with? Identify that, and change it. Life should be enjoyable, not a chore. You should want to eat to survive, to live another day.

This does sound very much like depression this tutor sounds like a very caring person and is obviously very worried about you it sounds like your very unhappy with yourself at the minute and the only way you will start to make a difference is if you take the first step and reach out to the hand that as reached out to help you and I believe this is you tutor. I would go into college tomorrow and make the changes necessary in making you feel alot better about yourself and that's to talk to your tutor I promise she will help. good on yer for admitting it that's the first step done.

yes, definitely, depression does not have to be permanent, talk with your Doctor, I wish to know your in a better state of mind, do not let this continue. I suffered depression for a few years and it can be situational, but what shocked me, was how you don't feel yourself sinking, one day your just "THERE". I was told i be on meds for life, they called it Clinical depression, bull, i was on meds 2 yrs, and never experienced it since, i have been clear of meds and depression for 12 yrs. Death, divorce, and overload (school) for example are the most common form of situational depression. Like myself, there are people who don't feel stress until it becomes paramout and comes out in different ways.

Yes, I know what thats like, and it is depression, get help and someone to talk to. Also, just because it's depression doesn't mean that it isnt a teenage phase.

You are depressed if you no longer enjoy the activities that you used to and if the symptoms have lasted about 2 weeks. Please meet with your doctor for a proper diagnosis.
