It seems like this is more of a classification science and not one based on successful techniques and agreement of valid axioms. I mean if you have a bladder infection, the doctor gives you antibiotics and whalah it goes away. Does something like this ever happen in psychotherapy? Why ? why not?

theories still valid? In particular I am refering to Skinner's Operant conditioning and whether it is worthwhile to read texts on behavior modication from the 70s or after. Has the field moved far enough where in order to get a worhwhile understanding one who have to read texts from the 90s or would it be advantegous to read texts after 2000, or would any text within 30 years still be worth reading. To me, it would not be worth reading if it was simply to gain a historical perspective. Any advice here would be helpful, especially if someone could name some good texts to start with adn then a few to move up to. Thanks btw send me a email if you feel inclined to do so, I would enjoy to discuss with matter in more detaill.

Alfred Nobel once saw an obituary accidentally declaring his death. The heading was "The man who invented the dynamite died", he was so shocked and saddened, by this incident, he thought of doing something for which people would remember him in good faith. And he introduced the Nobel Prize, which awards people who done something better for the society in the fields of Peace, Science, Literature, Economics, etc. It really makes me wonder, how do you want to be remembered as when you die?

i am realizing that if i pay attention i can recognize when the person is saying or doing something just to upset me and get a reaction. when i realize what is happening i am able to control my reactions and have the opposite reaction. (i dont get angry, i act like it doesnt bother me at all, and the person seems surprised)

but sometimes i dont realize until after i react badly that the person was "trying" to get a reaction.

Nearly every home has at least one television, and surely nearly everyone watches it at least sometimes. (At least this is true for much of the world, but certainly not all.)

This vegetative state while being dependent on that machine seems to be a common experience; so, what's the cause for creating a fuss over it?

Due to physical and mental decline, an appt. had just been set to get tested for dementia and then fell, broke her hip and is now in assisted living with diagnosed dementia and in a wheelchair, can't get up or walk on her own at all. The nurses say try hard to walk, etc. to go home. They say that to make her work to get strong but know she is unable. Our sister wants to tell her she will never go home...we feel the urge to protect her and know she forgets anyway...what should we do?

My bestfriend's cousin has been going through some health problems lately, and has been suffering serious depression. She has let her home go to the extreme extent, and I know it bothers her. She has tried to clean and organize many times, and it somehow piles up on her again.

She takes in stray cats, and has an indoor dog. The cats have made such a mess of her home. Some use the litter box and other go ALL over the floor, on the couch, kitchen counter, even the stove! :*( She loves the cats and will not get rid of them.

Her floor is so soiled, the beige carpet is now med-dark brown with filth. The cats walk on this, get it on there paws and walk all over the counters and leave nasty paw prints, everywhere. Her dog gets into the trash and spreads it all over. Her cats urinate and poo all over her place, on bags and boxes. She is in a rut, and can't seem to keep everything clean.

Any advice, how to you clean this extreme filth?
