You wrote "do we ever really grow up" Well, I can't answer for "we" if you are including yourself in the question.

For myself, I will answer. I still feel like a child. I still feel like being silly, having adventures and fun, and not having responsibilities.

I also still feel innocent, naive, full of illusions, dreaming, falling in love with love, open, unsure, and the world is still big and there is still so much to learn and do and experiences to experience.

I am quite sure for better or worse that I will never grow up.

Thanks for your interesting question.

I think that depends on the individual and their upbringing and surroundings, some people get brought up that they have to act a certain way, some people need to grow up faster due to circumstances that may have happened in their lives, then there is the people that are so laid back and can act responsible at the right times and still act like a big child when in that setting, me i can be the official straight laced adult that knows the right way to act in certain settings but at the same time when around my children or certain friends i can be a prankster and joke about that makes me look like a big kid ...as i said i think it depends on the individual and their surroundings

I can answer from my life experience. First, my mother still hasn't grown up. She is Peter Pan. Next my ex husband has never grown up. BUT me I'm grown up. I had to grow up. Somebody had to take care of me! I grew up much to young as a child. My ex used to say I was born older than my mother!

i suppose as we conform to social mores of society we repress our childish ways and curiosity. we learn to think and revise etc for what is needed rather than for own wants and needs. everything is done to conform to targets, goals and criteria.

picasso ' everyone is a child the problem is how to remain a child once we grow up'

a child's IQ increases dramatically in its early years - because s/he is constantly open to learning new things, looking at everything and asking questions. the inquisitiveness of a person is the true indicator of intelligence.
