I have seen quite a few questions on here that are really profound or tricky. They are usually deceptive in their simplicity. Some require advanced math to answer properly, or a serious interest in philosophy. There is always some person posting who gives the trivial answer that is already noted in the question or details and then says something like "I guess you might learn not to mess around with these indeterminate things when you grow up. " instead of considering what the question is about or who the person asking it might be.
I am just wondering what drives these people.

Alternatively, how do you know they aren't? they are always personal experiences, and hallucinations never overlap with 'real' life. So how do you differentiate and call one or the other 'real'?

Since there are chromosomes that determine our sexes, and genes that determine our eye colour ...etc, there must be something that determines our sex preferences, are there?

I previously asked a question in the Psychology section, but had a typo, so I deleted it, even though I had a few quality answers. The typo was bugging me though, and since it's going to be on my permanent record, I wouldn't want to be forever remembered as a dud who couldn't type, at least by those who don't already know that.

Anyhow, I reposted the question under the Mental Health section and the answers are following an entirely different way of thinking.

For more info., please feel free to check out the "Which do you prefer" question in my Answers profile.

I read a story that the parapsychologist, Kieran fed Derek Acorah with a fake name (Rik Eedles) for him to pick up on a live TV which he did hook line and sinker. I mean 7 series in and no sightings, come on!!!I believe that the TV series has done more to prove that there are no ghosts than any other paranormal investigation in history

I once read somewhere that everyone has psychic energy. It's just that most of us are unable to properly channel it or don't have enough of it. I personally believe this is true, and that it's both of those reasons, but also a matter of faith.

Regarding the truth of psychic energy existing, I think the reason that, if we happen to have enough of it to utilise, the reason we cannot just "learn" to use it is because it's like... for example, telling someone who cannot wiggle their nose to do it. Some people CAN wiggle their nose, but trying to teach someone to do it, even if they're body is able to do it, is difficult. People can't just mentally tell their noses "hey, go wiggle." Just like people don't tell their hands to move to type, when they want to type. They just do it.

So I think it's like that with channeling psychic energy. If you find a way to do it, then you do. Most people, with enough energy, have bodies that are able to do it, but just cannot figure out how.

Please list and/or elaborate on your phobias.

I'll list/elaborate on mine tomorrow in a detail, maybe. But I'm curious as to what the general consensus for fears is.

Thanks ahead of time for your answers!

Spiders is probably ranking top 10 fears of mine.

It started with my last boyfriend. Everytime I saw him in the mirror, his face seemed off balance, sort of like a Picasso. Nothing crazy or anything, it just didnt quite look like him. It freaked me out the first time I saw it, but I got used to it somewhat. But in the last few months, it's happened with 2 other people. I really want to know what this means. This is no joke, and it's starting to freak me out. Do I have some kind of psychic ability? And if I do, then what the hell is it?!

I'm a premed student, a member of MENSA, top of my class, pretty enough, a shy, sweet girl with lots of friends and people who care about me. Yet when I think about who I am, I feel like crying because I hate that girl so much. I've tried for years to change this about myself, because I owe it to the people who care about me. Nothing has helped, and I fear that I'll never like the person I am.

I had a dream that I lost all my teeth during a fight against South American drug gangs dressed in long, red coats like the castle guards in Wizard of Oz and Harrison Ford was my dentist that fixed them all up. By the way, they attacked while I was living in a turn of the century hotel that was like a sorority (no--NOT like a brothel at all); but all the residents were women and we all dressed in saloon-girl style clothes.
What on earth does this all mean?? Good golly!

What made the Germans believe Hitler's theories? Didn't some see that it was evil? Why did the Jews allow Hitler to do that to them? Why didn't the government/military for the Jews do anything?

I just wish there was a way to stop feeling like this. I am confused 95% of the time to the point where I can't focus on the smallest thing. Nothing seems to really excite or entertain me anymore. I am always irritated as hell. I'm getting to the point where I hate being around anyone, and when people call, majority of the time I ignore the phone. It's feels like there is not one thing they could have to talk about that would be of any interest or importance to me. It's like I'm thinking a million different things at once and the majority of them are what people would consider 'thoughts that people are really not supposed to have'. I'm not talking about sexual, perverted thoughts, but just wrong ones. I really feel as if I need some help, but when I've tried to explain myself to people, even professionals, i usually end up deviating from the subject or finding myself at a lost of words on how to explain the situation. The things I have taken haven't ever helped. What should I do?

Every night I stay up way too late even though I need to go to bed. I have to wake up early in the morning to go to work. If I had my way I'd stay up most of the night and then sleep most of the day....I don't know why I'm like this but I just can't make myself go to bed even though I'm sooooo tired... It's as if I feel like I'm gonna miss something... Anybody else do this?
