Background:
When I was in college, I dealt with people who listened carefully to both sides of an argument. The substance of the presentation was more important than the style of presentation. That was where I learned how to persuade people

This Site:
On this site, I'ved learned to adopt tactics tuned to an entirely different audience:

- Most people won't read more than a few lines of your argument.

- If you try to assert something contrary to surface appearances, you are unlikely to succeed

- A short snappy put-down is more convincing than a carefully reasoned argument

- Group affiliation (or ethnicity) trumps reason. Most people support their own kind, right or wrong.

After participating on this site, I've come to understand exactly why politicians "dumb-down" their arguments. Careful reasoning doesn't seem to have much to do with how decisions are made here.

What have you learned form your questions and answers on this site?

I know people who consider themselves to be in the middle politically according to their standards but, in are actually liberal in what they believe. I'm curious to know what "foreign" or non-US citizens think is conservative politically or just plain conservative i.e. every day life styles, etc., etc. Thanks.

Explain contention that talk shows can both normalize and " freakify" queer families.
Have the talk shows you have seen done more to normilize or freakify nontraditional families?
Overall do you think daytime talk TV tends to challege or reinforce long-standing myth about famil?
What about other kinds of TV shows, like soap operas, sit-coms, and " reality" TV?

If you knew that the baby you were about to save from abortion was going to grow up to be gay and proud, would you still attempt to save his life? Just so you know I am pro choice, but very interested in any responses I get that seriously answer the question.

I asked the question earlier in a different area, and alot of people assumed that i was saying that I am anti gay, so asking again and clarifying that i am not anti gay, seeing as I am gay.

"Just because I'm easy, don't think I'm naive"?

Thats one of the lyrics in the Ani Defranco song, "Outta me, Onto You." Its a huge stereotype. While I know that alot of women sleep with multiple partners because of low self esteem issues and other things like that, there are women who make the conscious decision to sleep with many men, simply because that is what they want to do.

It brings up a question for me, why do people insist on believing and thinking that just because a woman chooses to sleep with many men, or be "easy" that means she is also stupid or naive?

She is a receptionist for a small private company. She complains that several female coworkers treat her like garbage. She is the youngest and prettiest, doesn't have kids, and is the newest person there. Another receptionist (been there 2 weeks longer) is included in lunches and after work activities, but my girlfriend is not. When she goes to lunch, she is asked to bring other people lunch, but she is never brought lunch. I work in a much more professional office where everyone is important and valuable, and everyone is nice to one another. It pains me to see my gf have to deal with these people.
