I am awed by the number of products which are made each year simply to save people a little time and effort, I refer to it as the remote control syndrom. It seems to me that this has been going on as long as man has been inventing things, and it's getting worse by the day.

Before I get into details, I guess my main question is, why is it so important to people to save a few seconds by using some of these things? What do they gain by it?

Some examples:
Electric Can Opener - What is so hard about getting out a normal can opener and twisting the knob and opening the can?

Drive Through windows - Why are people so against getting out of their car and going in to get their fattening food? I see lines inside with maybe 2 people in them and an entire slew of cars around the building waiting for their food. Why!?

Please answer my questions and also, if you have the time, give some more examples of things that are made to save smoeone a few precious seconds that aren't needed! Thx

I have acctually been asking this question for a number of years and have to admit that I am more interested in peoples reaction to the question than in a prosaic answer. However I wouldn't be oppossed to a definative answer from someone who builds the things. Just because I find it a silly place for a headlight doesn't mean theres not a valid reason for it being there.

this qestion was asked by my chemistry teacher he wants us give our oppinionon both sides but we have to prove it with real facts or proff like gandhi or maritin luther king how did they learn. I methodically step-by-step think thru my issues or problems and make a decision and then feel better. Sometimes they are really old issues that I may have had at one time, like in jr high or high school which don't need resolved but I still think about them. I often wonder why I do this.

Certain people seem to think its ok to kill someone just because you don't follow their faith, for example...I would say except for euthanasia and self defense, no one should be doing anything to take anyone elses life...another example, other cultures treat and abuse women or children...is there any that most if not all people in the world agree on?
