Here's the honest answer, disregard all of the nonsense answers people have been giving you, there just here for the points. The true answer is that vacuums have lights to give the dirt and dust a fighting chance to get away. When they see the light coming they run n hide under the couch. Now if you don't believe me, just lift your couch n see if the dirt n dust isn't hiding there. One last fact people probally didn't know is that dirt n dust can't hear, no matter how loud the vac is. Thank god for those lights eh?

I like to vacuum in complete darkness and find the headlight a necessity.
I'm obviously kidding and the only thing I can think of is when you vacuum under chairs or beds it shows anything you may not want to vacuum up.

I don't build them, but I know someone who repairs them. He always said it was for modern day witches who switched from the traditional broom to a high powered vacuum.
seriously, the lights are just for dark corners and underneath couches and things.

Mine has one. I kinda like it. It makes it easier to see the crumbs and cat hair. :-)
