It's one example of many ways people try--for whatever bizarre reason--to impress each other. It's what the entire world of fashion (regardless of which fashion that is) is based upon. Why on earth anyone would think wearing your pants around your ankles and swaggering around like you were born without kneecaps is somehow cool is beyond me, but apparently many people are so concerned with what other people think of them (*cough* insecure *cough*) that they'll go to any lengths to make fools of themselves and find a niche to conform themselves to. True nonconformism is when you dress, act, think, speak, and do what you want or need to do without the -slightest- concern as to whether your peers think it's "cool" or not... because, as anyone with more than three brain cells knows, putting so much concern into something so petty is both mindless and pathetic.
And there you have it. :)

It started in the early 1990's when prisoners wanted to let others know they were available for some action. It started with blacks who came up with the word saggin, which if you spell it backwards it spells something different. At the same time hip hop and rap music started to become more and more popular where a good majority of them have all done some sort of time in prison. That's when it started to become popular. I admit I once thought it was cool and wore my pants baggy. But I always needed a belt to make sure they stayed up above my a--. Throughout the years as I matured people just started to wear them lower. Now it has become even worse. I see all races wearing boxers that show, a pair of pants that comes past their crack, and a second pair of pants down to half of their thighs. When did the style of 2pairs of saggin pants start.

You practically answered your own question. Everything starts in California, wheather it be dress codes, Cars that can actually jump up and down, side-ways. Blacks, Mexicans, Hispanics, and some white kids have their A.. showing even here in the Southlands. it is a fad started by the gangs in the Inglewood, and Watts district in California. I have said earlier that I worked with an airline until retirement, and I would say we had several blacks working with us. They actually had to do nothing as the supervision was told to let it be. If we complained about it they would only tell us to not worry about them, just do your work. The only way a black male, or black female could get fired would be stealing, or have an addiction, but even then leave of absence for recovery.. Random drug test did away with some users, and one would't leave it alone, so "he was out of here".

I dont think any one person can say when it got started ..but iv asked many people why they sag their pants..But its not only black people..Anyway many say its a style for gangs.others just say it comftorable for them..i say its nothing but another trend..just like the trend of girls wearing really tight close that a 5year old could fit into..its all apart of trends and the style the people like..if you look around people are dividing themselves not by race but by the way they dress and talk..for example..Gothics,skaters,punker.Emo,gangbangers..we are all seperating or selves so no one can blame one race its every person in this world..saggy pants is nothing but another way to seperate one group of people from the other

it's a cultural thing. All races have certain things they do that you won't find too many people from another race doing. Somebody could ask why do white guys wear pants as tight as girls wear their pants. Personally I don't like the pants below the butt, but also don't like the pants to be as tight as I wear mine.

Yeah, it's a cultural thing....kinda like indians wearing a lot of feathers. Started by the KKK who want to be able to catch black kids easier.

have faith me, i understand lots of white men who're socially irresponsible and immature. yet between the final bosses I ever labored for became an rather expert, nicely-dressed, rather clever black guy. As for the peer rigidity to not prevail, it is asserted as the Crab Bucket Syndrome. whilst crabs are caught for seafood, it is not had to place a lid on the bucket. Any crab who tries to flee its destiny would be pulled lower back into the bucket via the different crabs. a similar component happens in abusive, dysfunctional families whilst one member of the kinfolk starts to recuperate by way of counseling. the different kinfolk will sabotage their restoration. mum and dad may even pull their infant out of counseling as he/she starts to get extra desirable. for this reason it quite is asserted, "residing nicely is the final revenge." i will testify that an abuser HATES it whilst the sufferer recovers and lives a happy existence. in addition, somebody from the interior city or from a destructive backwoods city (race is way less of a component than economics) who tries to prevail would be labelled "uppity" or "sellout." u . s . a . human beings use the expression "getting above your elevating." To be accused of doing it is an insult. It implies, "you think of you're extra desirable than us." a guy i understand became disowned via his small city father for going to college. "nicely, once you're gonna start up gettin' all uppity on us, you do not would desire to return around here not extra."

The real question is "Why do a lot of white boys from suburbia wear saggy pants?"
Or
"Why do they (white boys and everyone else) let them (black boys) dictate pop culture?"

its not just 'black men', thats kind of a generalization but whatever.
to the extent of my knowledge, it actually started in prison and was a kind of symbol for 'lets ****', letting other inmates know youre available for a shag.
sadly, i'm not kidding. thats just what i heard though.
