I'm half mexican, half "white". My parents divorced when I was 2 and I've been raised primarily by my mom. She is white, but not exactly sure what her ethnicity is (italian? spanish?) Shes dark with dark hair ;light eyes. For the past few years I have just identified myself as hispanic, or mexican. I feel like I'm betraying my mom in some way though because she and my step father raised me and my dad wasn't steadily in the picture. (lived 4 states away). I do speak with him though. I've heard before that "you are what your mother is" but I don't know what my mother is. At least I know for a fact that I am half mexican. Have you heard of this saying before? Should I feel like I'm betraying mom when I say I'm hispanic? She kind of gets annoyed by it and says I should just say I'm European. I look mexican and for some reason people always ask me what my ethnicity is. What would you say?
