1. Chlorine is used to kill bacteria and so sterilise water for domestic supply or in in swimming pools.
2. Chlorine is used in making CFC refrigerant gases/liquids but their production and use are being reduced.
3. Organic chlorine compounds are used as pesticides, including the now mainly banned DDT.
4. Fluorine is used as fluoride salts in toothpaste or added to domestic water supplies to strengthen teeth enamel helping to minimise tooth decay.
5. Bromine and iodine are both used in 'halogen' car headlamps.
6. Fluorine is used in manufacture of aerosol propellants and refrigerant gases.
Hope this helps.

The halogens are five non-metallic elements found in group 17 of the periodic table. The term "halogen" means "salt-former" and compounds containing halogens are called "salts". All halogens have 7 electrons in their outer shells, giving them an oxidation number of -1. The halogens exist, at room temperature, in all three states of matter:
Solid- Iodine, Astatine
Liquid- Bromine
Gas- Fluorine, Chlorine

Don't you mean group 17? Try here...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halogen
Halogens are highly reactive, and as such can be harmful or lethal to biological organisms in sufficient quantities. Fluorine is the most reactive element in existence, even attacking glass, and forming compounds with the heavier noble gases. It is a corrosive, highly toxic gas. Chlorine and iodine are both used as disinfectants for such things as drinking water, swimming pools, fresh wounds, dishes, and surfaces. They kill bacteria and other potentially harmful microorganisms, a process known as sterilization. Their reactive properties are also put to use in bleaching. Chlorine is the active ingredient of most fabric bleaches and is used in the production of most paper products.
Bleach, Bromine or Chlorine for Hottubs & Pools, Halogen lightbulbs, Iodine for disinfecting before surgery, dish washing soap, Soft Scrub & other cleaners with bleach for killing bacteria
etc etc etc

halogens are used to:
make salt
neon bulbs-light bulbs- i.e the fluorescent
they are very strong oxidising agents
they are used for radioactive purposes
They combine readily with most metals and nonmetals to form a variety of compounds and never occur uncombined in nature
