Simply because the unknown is unknown. Very simple...lol. Nice try, trying to be a smartass. :P The unknown could be terrible, or it could be a good thing

That's like saying not to be afraid to push a button that's not labled. You dont know WHAT gonna's happen.

It's not the fear of the unknown that makes people fearful. It's the fear that maybe the unknown is horrible/painful. :P

That is the point, one does not know what is not known and most people fear this. They fear over failure, embarassment and other silly stuff... that would make them look stupid. Funny... not many think that the unknown can also bring loads of good.... they will never know, for they fear the unknown and unfortunately will never know what they never knew in the first place and get nothing at all for it.

READ THAT TEN TIMES REALLY FAST!!

But you do 'know what the unknown' is.

It is 'the unknown.'

and it is a fearful dreadful place to be, like a headbanging rock gig on a Saturday night where all the doors are locked and the sound system is on FULL.

the unknown is only as big as your imagination will let it be.
some people have bigger imaginations and a lot of things happening for real in their life that have caused them to be afraid of what is not seen today, but can become a reality tomorrow . It has been that way in their past and they know the unknown to be ugly.

People are afraid of things they don't understand. Take for instance death....since, we don't really have anyone that has died for a number of years and come back to tells us everything they did....we get scared about death and dying....will I get bored or am i with husband #1 or husband #2....will I recognize my friends....is this hell or heaven ....was there a hell or heaven...
(I don't think 30 seconds into the light counts either).
ever see the commerical with the kids and cereal? they were afraid to try it....they let Mikie try it.
tell you what....if your ever afraid....let someone else do it first.

Because we tend to like stability and if the future is unknown it's not stable or secure and therefore scary.
