That's flat out wrong. There are way too many americans to make that statement. If your asking why the wealthy live in larger spaces than the less wealthy, it's because they hav ethe money for the larger spaces. Last time i checked, the owners of international corporations in europe weren't living in one bedroom apartments.
The Wealthly in every country spend there money on bigger lands and Larger houses. That's not by any means something that is soley american at all.

Because we have the room for it and are not as over crowded as some other countries. Not to mention, some people can afford it. And, yes, the part about being greedy is correct. Americans are Material creatures.

It's our obsession with wealth. The bigger the land, the bigger the house - it tells others how much we have.

because we have higher standards would you expect to go to a third world country and find a mansion. and if your can afford it why the hell not if youve got it flant it!!!!!!!
