If you work all day and the school doesn't have the classes you need at night. And if the school does have the classes you need at night, maybe you don't have a babysitter to watch your kids. Or maybe you are married and you work in the day and your husband works at night AND you only have one car AND the school is 30 minutes away AND you can't find any daycare for your child and if even if you could find daycare you wouldn't be able to afford it because you already pay for daycare during the day. That last one is why I chose online school.

Distance learning is a great way to get an education not only for the busy person, but for rural student as well. Courses not offered at a local educational institute can still be taken by anyone around the world. It saves on travel time and expenses. With the rising price of gas, a 2 hour drive for a 1 hour class is neither feasible nor is it cost effective. Distance learning bridges geographical gaps and brings education to more people despite where they have chosen or have been forced to live.
