Instead of all kinds of awards going to 'actors' what would you opinion be if they went to Consultants/Doctors etc., and were given on the same level as above. I feel strongly that we direct awards to the above category 'ad-hoc' so to speak when the people like hospital doctors etc., receive no where near as much reconigtion for more life saving factors.

I am curious about others' opionions on this. A friend from another culture felt that it is the man's job to protect and provide for his family, but also controlling the family including the wife helped reinforce his masculinity. What characteristics reinforce masculinity in American culture? In other words what do Americans feel makes a man a man?

what I mean is do Americans have a more narrow-minded sense of gender roles than other socities. In this country (where I am from and have lived in my whole life it seems that all men are expected by women to be large, tough, strong, and never cry. Is this as true in other cultures? Or is it more true in America?

I did many things and yet not finished anyway, I found later it beyond my abilities or boring or I find it it's not the best jobs to do.

I did computer programming
music: guitar, piano
stock
furniture making
writing
cooking class and training
currently into law degree

Still try to find the right career, though if nothing better I continue to finish my degree and be a lawyer.

This is the first of my "What happened" questions there will be a few more so stay tuned. This is a 100% true story. Over the years I've only told a handful of people about it. I will keep my personal beliefs about what happened private. Back in 1991 I was living in the San Francisco bay area. I had been living on my own for the first time for about 3 months and at night I was a little scared. One night I was in my bed and I heard what sounded like the front door being closed. As you can imagine my heart was beating so hard I thought it might pop out of my chest! I lay there terrified straining to hear any thing that this supposed intruder was doing but there was nothing but silence. I decided not to go out and investigate, since my bedroom door was locked if whomever wanted me they would have to come through that door first. So I laid in the darkness and listened, again there was only silence.

ok, so i can't say i really have a best friend or anything like that because I have high standards when it comes to determening who that is and a perfect situation for that is always when things are not that easy. now i'm learning not to depend on anyone on absolutely anything because it gets me down when i realize what i didn't want to. acquaintances are fine, i have those, but friends in the real sense of the word, i do not have.

I am pretty, intelligent, musical, honest and would never hurt anybody. I know I'm a bit shy but why many people (except my friends and ppl that know me) only look at my shortcomings not my good points? Are ppl like this coz their competitive? Why should I talk to them if they don't want to know me? Why do they only judge me on my outside not inside although ppl told me that I'm pretty? How do I change their attitude when they judge me as if they know me but they don't? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

what do you relate to them? I've noticed that many people in this section (many women, surprisingly) denounce feminism and generalize feminists as man-hating, anti-religion, violent, boorish people. Why is that? Do you think that the media puts a bad face on feminism? What do you think of when you hear the word feminism?
