Instead of all kinds of awards going to 'actors' what would you opinion be if they went to Consultants/Doctors etc., and were given on the same level as above. I feel strongly that we direct awards to the above category 'ad-hoc' so to speak when the people like hospital doctors etc., receive no where near as much reconigtion for more life saving factors.

That would be so much better. Since when did the people of tv soaps and films save anyones life?
On the note of Doctors getting what they deserve, I think Doctors and footballers should swap wages. Nothing agaisnt footballers, but it's not like they help anyone either...

They do receive awards but it's not commercialized as movie awards, it is usually not televised. It is our nation obsession with movie stars and celebrities in general that makes it so successful. If we stop paying so much money for movie tickets and stop watching Oscars, Golden Globes etc it would change very quickly.

At least doctors get a decent pay. Nurses and such do all the hard and dirty work without regocnition and the money's cr*p. I'd give the awards to them.

Yes, our society's priorities are all screwed up. We pay those who entertain us, Actors, Athletes, Comedians much too much compensation for what they have to offer society.
Doctors do make good money, but must deal with heavy education requirements (that are always ongoing)
But what do we pay our Firemen, Policemen and our Teachers. They are entrusted with protecting our lives, our property, and the education of future generations, yet how do we compensate them?

Not enough glam, not enough money to be made by TV and media, no bright lights and sparkle, it's all for show, although doctor's play a brilliant part in life's big picture, they don't make wealth for the fat cats, they "only" save lives.

Doctors DO receive awards and recognitions and such---the difference is that the public at large just isn't interested in them.

yeah, yeah, yeah. i know. the truth is, people watch that crap because it's eye candy. besides that, things like nobel are so out in left field that they don't matter either.
