Social Science - 11 January 2007

IMO, the 3% of the population that are psychopaths are responsible for 99% of the world's misery. This question has been asked before on Answers and elicited alot of opinions but I'm more curious about serious scientific attempts to address this issue. Thanks.

It's always a different place and person. I'm running and running non-stop and just when I think they finally got me I somehow figure out a way to get away by jumping from buildings, swimming across rivers, etc but a few seconds later they are right on my tail and I'm running for my life again.

In other words men have higher income, but do women have higher net worth? I have read that they do, but I can't find the reference. What about all those pension funds? Ever since I started taking Prozac 2 years ago, all I could do is lay on the couch. I'm constantly tired, call in sick all the time, and let my bills pile up so high they were out of control. I recently stopped taking it and have never felt better! I am also dealing better with problems. Do you think antidepressants help depressed people cover up and avoid things?

Don't you find the following statement absurd:

"He says he's threatened by her? He's a star athlete. She's 5-foot-2, I think, and 105 pounds," said celebrity New York divorce lawyer Raoul Felder, one of the attorneys representing Joumana Kidd.

If what he is claiming is true, it is disgusting that we still have this idea that women are not capable of terrorizing their husbands in the same way that men can terrorize their wives. Just because a man is bigger doesn't mean his wife cannot be abusive. Some men are just not violent, believe it or not, and are afraid to do anything because she will likely not be arrested or charged.

Here is an interesting survey - more than 60% of women say it's OK to hit your husband, and more than 35% have done so.

Is this not a terrible double standard?

Is it wrong not to be patriotic too?

I dont feel that I should have any special ties or pledges to any countries of any sort eccept for cultural. Also under no terms would I ever want to join the militry, I find it quite pointless and redundant and I would NEVER do it. I feel that my life is way more important and I would never risk it to be in the army. The only way I would risk my life is to help someone else(if I knew I could) Also if something goes down here I would be the first one at the airport leaving for another country. I don't pledge allegance to the flag because it seems hypocritical.

Am I wrong? Should I be patriotic and have a sense of nationalism toward America.? because I know i feel the same way eaqually about all countries. Is it wrong for me not to want to protect "my country" in the line of duty even though it may mean risking my life?

The other day I drove to the park to go for a walk with my dog. Upon entering the park there is a cemetary on the left. There was a burial going on with hundreds of cars and approx. 30 police cars. I thought that was interesting and looked as I drove by. The person must of been somewhat important.

Upon leaving the park I looked over to see if it was still going on. Everyone had left but a couple of trucks. I saw one guy pushing dirt into a mound. He took his last push and threw the shovel in the back of the truck. He got in the truck and they sped off.

All that was left was a freshly piled up mound of dirt. No more people, police officers, anyone.

Just the person that was buried.

2 brothers where playing in the yard and 1 of them found a butterfly trap in the spider’s web. The spider begins to approach the butterfly, but then the boy reaches to save it from the spider’s web. As the boy reached to help the butterfly his brother crashes the spider. The 1 who tried to save the butterfly got angry and asked his brother why he killed the spider. The brother replies, because you wanted to save the butterfly from the spider. His brother replies no I wanted to save them both! The one who killed the spider then said Spiders need to kill butterflies or they will die of starvation so if you keep saving the butterfly the spider would die away. So to spare the butterfly and to ease the spiders suffering you should just kill the spider. The one you saved the butterfly said no you don’t have the right to take the life of the spider. He wanted to save them both.

My question is: would you save the butterfly or kill the spider?
Basically asking who do you feel is right.

I'm a pretty well-rounded person, but I think my biggest limitation is that I'm over analytical. I had a dream last night that I was in this huge house, and I'm not going to put every detail b/c it would take to long, but I could fly, but only when I had this certain blanket on, and I remember flying up to the ceiling while I was inside and then I wentoutside and flew over the roof, but I was sitting indian style, it wouldn't work any other way. Sometimes when i can see someone i know in a busy place, like accross the work place they are far enogh away from me that they cant hear me but if i say their name in my head 99% of the time they turn their head. Strange eh!!
