Is it wrong not to be patriotic too?

I dont feel that I should have any special ties or pledges to any countries of any sort eccept for cultural. Also under no terms would I ever want to join the militry, I find it quite pointless and redundant and I would NEVER do it. I feel that my life is way more important and I would never risk it to be in the army. The only way I would risk my life is to help someone else(if I knew I could) Also if something goes down here I would be the first one at the airport leaving for another country. I don't pledge allegance to the flag because it seems hypocritical.

Am I wrong? Should I be patriotic and have a sense of nationalism toward America.? because I know i feel the same way eaqually about all countries. Is it wrong for me not to want to protect "my country" in the line of duty even though it may mean risking my life?

you do not have any right to make an assuption about me. you dont even really know the specific reason why i wouldnt. for one mainly i think fighting and killing is wrong. two fighting is a retarded resolution for any problem and three, there is nothing that serious that is likley to happen where it would be totally messed up for me to enlist. the are there main reasons i feel sacrificing my life is not worth it. do not make assumptions about me or my character because you know nothing about me. there is an a$$ in assume for a reason.

For myself, Koko, I would say that I would fight to defend my country and the basic freedoms we enjoy.
DEFEND.
Nobody is invading our country right now, and, in fact, no part of our country has seen the boots of invaders since World War II.
(Even then it was only small islands in the Pacific and the Aleutians.)
If your point is to say that it's wrong to send our young people off to kill or be killed in some country halfway around the world just to "defend American interests" (NOT the same thing as defending America) then I'm definitely with you.
Also, on the subject of patriotism, I am troubled by the idea that "patriotism" is defined as "obedience." One of the ugliest things going on right now in this country is the way that people who question the war are accused of "hating America."
In truth, the Founders put freedom of speech in the Constitution for a reason. We are supposed to question, to debate, especially when the subject is something as serious as war. Those who unquestioningly go along are not the only patriots. Those who have the courage to question are also doing an act of love for their country; they don't want their country to do the wrong thing.
Stand by your beliefs, girl, and stand proud.

No, it's not. Being a soldier is an honorable thing. Even if you don't agree with the situation, if you choose to be a soldier, you should be proud. We shouldn't criticize the soldiers who hold true to their duty for their country. Rather, we should work hard so they won't have to be put in harm's way. We should also make sure that when they return, they return to a society that recognizes their sacrifice and give them the respect and admiration they deserve.

That being said, you shouldn't feel no less of a person by deciding not to enlist. Not everybody should have to join the military. You can be a great American here in America. You can help people who need you right here at home.

O.K I do not believe in the war, and I don't really care for Bush! But our military is over there voluntarily risking there lives, because people want to kill us! Yes It would be great if there was no need for war, and the world lived in perfect harmony! But it doesn't, there are people that don't like us, and while it may be our fault for creating these enemies, they are still there! They do not care if you agree with them or not, they would kill you in an instant! So, no its not wrong that you don't want to go over there and face the chance of being killed. But the good thing is that you don't have to, because there are plenty men and women putting there lives on the line so that your ungrateful *** can sit at home, do nothing and criticize the people who are trying!
You don't have to agree with the military, but you have to be a complete idiot not to see the need for it! Without it there would be no USA and you would be speaking Japanese or Russian!

Your belief seems to ignore the hard won freedom you enjoy. Many others have spilt their blood to give you your current level of freedom. What I'm hearing you say if you were faced with the same choice as the generations before you, that there would be no United States, just English Colonies. That Germany would currently rule the world with an iron hand since WWI or WWII would been lost. Wow! Are you wrong? It seems so undeniabley clear to me, that it is hard for me to conceive that you aren't simply self-indulgent and deplorably un-educated.

Ok KOKO,
I am a 21 year old female. I am in the military, and am on my way back to Iraq. Is it dangerous, yes, is it necessary, yes, is it worth it, you tell me. In this country you would not be able to ask such a question, or they would cut out your tongue. It would be deemed cowardess, or blasphemy. In the USA you have the right to express your fear, because others gave the right to you by defending it, sometimes with their lives. Should you feel a need to take arms for your country? Would you stand their and let someone take your life, or attempt to defend yourself? My dad served in Nam, my grandfather in WW2 and me because I felt the need. Maybe you don't. Maybe you are just scared. Maybe your reasons are none of my business, and that is ok. Just please dont do your protectors the way others have done them in the past, they do what you are afraid to do, at least if you dont respect them for it, dont chastise them for doing the right thing.

If you want to live in a country such as the USA where people have fought and died for the freedom that your sorry *** enjoys, then you too fight for it, or leave. That is what built this great nation, and if you cant see it, maybe you belong in some other country. It really just means you are a coward, and if you can live with it, I guess we can too.

You have a right to be who you are and feel the way you do. Alot of people feel you should back your country 100% but that feeling must come from within each person. I would not be surprised if you were not the only one at the airport if something were to happen here. Just be who you are and who cares if it's right or wrong!!!!!!

I'm gonna give this kinda question the kinda answer it deserves.

Yes, of course it's wrong. You should always do what other people tell you and never think for yourself. Your opinions don't count but other people's do. Haven't you figured that out by now? So always ask OTHER people what you should and shouldn't do and what's right and wrong. Don't figure it out for yourself.

Oh, I'm sorry, was this just an excuse to blab your opinion? Whoops.

It's never wrong to not WANT to fighting. Fighting is something that should only be done as a last resort; but if someone is interfering with your way of life, you should be prepared to defend yourself. If you won't, why should anyone else feel obligated to do it for you.
