look at the pros and cons of the situations and see if it's worth loosing your temper...and teach yourself to control your anger...say every time you want to get mad...say a "mantra" or a word till you loose your anger or think of something funny that happened and make yourself laugh...so basically divert your thoughts and anger to something else and you'll be OK!!

I don't think it's possible to actually 'control' your thoughts, but you're more likely to be able to learn to control your reaction(s) to whatever it is you're thinking.
Not that THAT's all that easy, either!
Anger is not a 'bad' emotion, it's what you do with it that can mess up your life. Anger is a signal that something needs to change; maybe something outside of you, maybe something in how you think about things.
Whenever something makes you angry, take a long, slow deep breath or two (or 10!), try to see other sides of the issue (and I mean TRY!) and ask questions to make sure you understand what the other person's point of view is BEFORE you let yourself react.
There's the kind of anger that makes people work to change the world for everyone's benefit, and the kind of anger that only hurts yourself and those closest to you. Seeing / knowing what kind of anger you're feeling is the first step to controlling negative actions.
Good luck with this, the fact that you know it's something you can influence is a very good sign that you will overcome this issue. (People who go thru life saying, "I wouldn't get like this if (they) didn't make me so mad! They're the ones that make me angry!" etc. are people who can't take responsibility for themselves and will never grow emotionally or mentally.

I don't know if you can control your thoughts, I've been trying to change my life around and be a better person and after a while your thoughts will become better or nicer too. I use to have bad anger problems and now I just try to relax and I ask myself if it really was that big of a deal that I need to get mad over it or is it something that will be forgotten in a few minutes. This should help, it's been helping me. Also maturity has helped my anger a lot.

The first thing is to recognize when you are thinking angry or bad thoughts. Once you are able to recognize them, you can simply choose to think of something positive. It's like a snowball effect. Once you start thinking about something bad, other bad things cross your mind. Once you start thinking about something good, positive experiences cross your mind.
