I recently read a book on goals and how having goals was important to succeeding in anything in life, but it really said that goals without a major purpose are ultimately not as effective. The reasoning is that goals are targets that you can hit, where a purpose is a reason for doing everything in life and no matter where you are in life you always have that purpose.
Some of the examples were pretty deep...like one person who had several goals such as to run a marathon but his purpose was to raise awareness for cancer (as he eventually died of it). In the end of his life, he had raised awareness for it substantially, so i guess he achieved his purpose in death.
Most purposes done have to be so deep, but I am curious as to what other people who have consciously worked out their purpose in life have to say.
What is your purpose and how did you come up with it?
