I live in a two-floor townhouse, where the family room, kitchen, living room, all bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms have windows (bathrooms have small, shaded windows) the only place with no windows is beneath the stairs, in the closet. (1st floor), but the stairs turn in a circle, as they spread to the 2nd floor. the main entrance is like 1 inch from the stairs. if i would open the door, then I wouldn't be able to get upstairs.
i know that i should stay on the 1st floor, away from windows; and cover my head with something.
there is no basement here, so what can i do.
would it be wise to get in the car and drive away as fast as i can, or what?

Can anyone do a better job than Wikipedia of explaining how the greenhouse effect "really works"? I.e. everything about the radiation-emitting band of the atmosphere moving upwards, etc. etc..

Ok heres my thinking. A raincloud is created when water is evaporated, rises and cools. If thats the case (I've probably got that bit wrong), could I in theory, create a massively tall tower, fill the bottom with water, heat the water with massive lamps or heaters, make the top of my tower freezing cold and create an indoor raincloud?

I was staying in Daytona Beach, this was in the 80's. I was on a balcony looking at clouds above the ocean. The cloud would light up with a perfect round ball of orange light inside. It flickered just like lightning does but had no sound. I read about ball lightning, but that's not the same as this. It was about the size the sun or moon would be from my vantage point. Not sure how big it was really because it was relatively close. It's always bugged me for years & I really wish someone could tell me what it was or that they had seen something similar.
