I was staying in Daytona Beach, this was in the 80's. I was on a balcony looking at clouds above the ocean. The cloud would light up with a perfect round ball of orange light inside. It flickered just like lightning does but had no sound. I read about ball lightning, but that's not the same as this. It was about the size the sun or moon would be from my vantage point. Not sure how big it was really because it was relatively close. It's always bugged me for years & I really wish someone could tell me what it was or that they had seen something similar.

It definately looked electrical, just like lightning. It was in clouds above the ocean, so it was definately not a streetlight. The moon was not out that night either. It was very big and round and bright.

I've heard about 'sprites' which are like little static electricity balls, similar to what people call St Elmo's Fire. It's like super charged air, that has just the right chemical makeup, in the right circumstances to set off a chain reaction, that goes on until it discharges, or uses up all it's fuel.
I saw a documentary on it once, years ago. A scientist on the show made one in a lab just to demonstrate.

It still all sounds very strange to me.

it was probably fire of some sort, it made no crash of thunder so it couldnt be an explosion or electrical discharge.
it must have been fire or something similar.
now this was in the SKY??? interesting indeed.....
now remember that the government doesnt tell us everything they do, for obvious reasons, they dont want other countries to know their military secrets.
so dont panic, in fact, dont panic if you see a UFO, I read a book on old military aircraft some time ago and it showed a primitve (compared to modern day tech) UFO, and some guys posing on and around it......it was a government military experement.

anyhow GL on finding some answers you like.

Most likely it was a large rock falling fron space into our atmosphere. The rock, when it hits our atmosphere, starts to heat up because it is passing through the atmosphere at incredible speeds and starts to catch on fire. Most of the rocks are disentigrated before they hit the ground so it doesn't last very long.

I had my good eye on Jupiter at that time 1:40-3:00 am Wisconsin time and seen nothing of the sort. True it could have been out of my field of view.

It could of been a comet or something. I usually see that here in Florida especially during storm season in the late spring and early summer.
