I realize that a(b+c) = ab + ac. It works. But why? I can create a geometric proof... even an algebraic proof... so see how it works for integers. But how can it be verified that it works for all rational and irrational and even transcendental numbers?

A cross-section of a standard or nominal "two by four" board actually measures 1 1/2 inch by 3 1/2 inch. the rough board is 2 inches by 4 inches but is planed and dried to the finished size. What percent of the wood is removed by planing and drying? OK so the answer is 34.375% but HOW step by step did you come up with the answer? I really have no clue!??

I've been trying to figure it out for hours. I went to tutoring and they couldn't help, I tried it in my calculator and it even broke, I called Chuck Norris and he roundhouse kicked me, I tried with my fingers and toes and all the nails broke, I called Jesica Simpson and she told me it was a kind of fish that usually comes in a can, I asked my math teacher and she doesn't get it neither; we are working together to solve it by next week!

What should I do?

Thanks a lot for your help
