My science class is doing an egg drop contest. We are goin to drop egg from about 10 feet up. You HAVE to use only these materials:
15 straws 15 rubber bands
15 popsicle sticks 1 meter of string
1 sheet of copy paper 1 meter of tape
10 paper clips 1 raw egg

And if its light I get bonus points.
Can somebody help tell me how to build on of these egg drop thingys so it wont't break

Hi,

I am looking for an external card to control 6 stepper motors concurrently.

Ideally, I would like to pass commands from computer using RS232 or USB.

The motors are small and will be used to turn light gears clockwise/anti-clockwise.

Thanks in advance for your answer.
Regards,

I am writing an essay on the financial implications of decisions made by engineers and it would be helpful if any could give me there opinion of what these are.

I have always wondered how they get cranes off the top of huge buildings when they finish building them.

I have had many people tell me how they THINK the cranes are taken off. But I want to know for sure. Can anyone give me some evidence? A web site or something??

When I say big building I mean like 100 storeys.

I have been told things ranging from

"a helicopter takes them off"

To

"They build tracks down the side of the building and drive it down"

And

"They pull it to pieces and take it down the elevator".

These MAY be real but sound like wild guesses to me.

So does anyone know the answer?

Tape will not work as an electrical insulator on the model i'm building.
Were can I find, or what can be used as a "non" - conductive
electrical insulation to cover the very small wires in this model. It would be easier for my application if it was in a liquid form, similar to a heavy paint that could be applied with a small brush.

Build a 20,000+ sqft floating platform to put a small pre-fab home on and then boat/float a few miles (international waters) off the coast of California.
This would be perhaps a floating disc with a radius of 80ft or a floating rectangle 108X185ft...
Do not concern yourself with how I would get fresh water or food...
Thank You!

I'm trying to compare the advantages and disadvantages of using a steam jacket on a reactor vs. an external heat exchanger. The steam jacket would be directly heating the reactor and the external heat exchanger would be heating the two inlet streams to this reactor. Please give a few advantages and disadvantages to each.

For engineering, we must make a car that looks real, and holds an egg. Must be less then 15 in long and 5 in wide. Must have a front bumper system and look real. Cannot be powered or use a break system. Vehicle must carry un cooked egg. Cannot use food items..you must see 50% of eggs, eggs must be removed 15 seconds after crash.eggs must be vertical in vehicle. no gluing or taping egg in vehicle.

My idea, crumble system with egg suspended with rubber band. car will crush in front... egg will wobble but be ok.

Car will go about 20 mph or something like that into a brick wall.

Can anyone help me out? I am wanting to take out a load bearing wall in a small bunglow (30x24) in advance of adding a second storey next summer. I want to support the existing ceiling joists running from front to back (12' each side overlapping in the middle) for a clear span of 15'. I was going to support the beam ends with three or four 2x6's running down thru the floor directly onto the main beam supporting the first floor (really beefy old school stuff).

I need to find out what size the beam should be to support new second storey bedrooms and new roof (and whatever snow sits on it!) and clear that 15' span.

I'm thinking it will be best to use steel to maximize head room passing under it in what will be a living room area?

Any help/advice/experience would be great! thx

I want to prepare a proposal for a new project. I should prepare it according to RUP. Is it a kind of standard to present a proposal? would you give me some examples or templates?
