A 10 micron filter will only pass sediment smaller than 10 micron, a 50 micron filter will only pass sediment smaller than 50 micron.
That means a 10 micron filter will filter out more sediments, but the flow through a 10 micron filter is slower or you need to apply more pressure than for a 50 micron filter.

50 micron filters have a larger pore size and will filter out particles greater than 50 microns in diameter but not less. A 20 micron particle will pass through the 50 micron pore but will be trapped by a 10 micron pore. Which one you need depends on the size of particles you can tolerate and the particle size distribution in your slurry.

50 micron is larger than 10 micron, therefor, a 10 micron filter will filter out more sediment.

in scale and size 10 microns - this is a case of an increase actively denoting a decrease .. thus 50 micron filter can relate to the size of the hole or filtered object .. you're unclear .. if you want the cleanest (and fastest) filtrate try the 50 micron then re filter through the 10 micron

The answer is: Which is larger, 10 or 50? Micron is just the unit.

Well, simple answer is yes. A special note, the filter rating is usually for small fish. Example. If I were to buy an AquaClear 100 (rated for a 100 gallon tank and a flowrate of 500 gph) it is actually not enough flow rate for a 55 gallon with a single Oscar. An Oscar (and other cichlids ... plus goldfish) need a higher flow rate than other fish because they are messier. 10x for a hang on back/power filter (5-7x for a canister). Certain fish though, such as a male betta veil tail would suffer from over filtration because the intake will draw the tail into the filter and the output will be so strong that it will tear up the tail (like those flags on cars, they eventually tatter from flapping in the breeze), but there are work-arounds for this issue, such as foam on the intake, and foam on the output to disperse and slow the current. I use an Penguin 100 with Bio-wheel for my 10 gallon single male Betta tank in just that way. Most fish will be able to swim against the current. I have a AquaClear 50 on a 30 gallon Molly tank. I had to put one of their sponge filters on the pickup to allow the molly fry to escape the suction. it works wonders ... AND it traps most of the debris before it goes into the filter box. I clean that sponge when I change water, and don't have to disturb the biological media inside the filter itself too much. It is still good to tear down the filterbox once a month to clean out any build up of food/waste/slime coat ... for healthier fish. You should never change out the bio-media, and most of your mechanical filtration can be rinsed clean in tank water, and it also holds some good bacteria. Carbon if you use it (I don't, replace it with more bio-media), needs to be replaces every 2-4 weeks at longest intervals, since it stops working and can leach the stuff it had taken out, back into the water. A good rule, if the tank stinks, it needs maintenance, not carbon to hide the problem. Hope this helped you have a better understanding of what goes on with the filter, the filter's rating, what you could put off with a bigger filter, and what you cannot.

2 ways to look at it 50m is larger in diameter so if your talking about a gauze type filter 10m holes wiil be smaller thus letting less through
