My laptop doesn't recognize when something is plugged into it. Like the power cord. Its from 2002 (I know its old) and the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore.

Someone told me it could be not recognizing anything because the battery is completely dead. Should i just buy a new battery and see if it works or will that not fix it?
Thanks

Every other country in the world is using the metric system. Why can't we, the US, start using it and gradually phase out our measuring system? The least we could do is to start putting the metric measurements next to our measurements.

Not considering friction or other forces, how much force, pressure, would it take to push, lift, a 1200 lb. weight up a 45 deg. angle.
I am curious as I saw a weight lifter do this using his legs and thought he was not actually lifting a 1200 lb. resistance.

a rectangular sheet of metal has dimensions of 250mm x 200mm. A rectangular hole with a distance "x" between it's edges and the edge of the plate is cut into the plate. the effect of adding the hole is to reduce weight of the plate by 60%.

(i) show that the area of the hole can be expressed as 4xsquared - 900x + 50000 = area of hole

(ii) solve the equation for "x" to determine the dimensions for the hole.

(iii) given that the area of the plate is 20000msquared clearly show steps and explain methodology at each point.

picture a rotating hub with inner workings where it creates a centrifugal force. Does this arrangement cause a load on the rotating hub....meaning if this hub was on the ground does centrifugal force impedes how fast or slow this hub moves on the ground? Picture a upright rotating wheel.........but don't pay any mind to what force is rotating it (gas engine, or electric motor etc). I am only interested in whether centrifugal force impedes rotation and if so how much......a formula would do.
