What happens to the homologous pair of chormosomes during meiosis? And why is it that after meiosis there is only one chromatid in each gamete? How will this gamete make a homologous chromosome with only one chromatid?

I've been told by several people that children all receive their father's blood type. Yet I have my mother's blood type and not my fathers. And I can't find this to be true anywhere I look on the internet. Am I looking in the wrong place? Someone please help me figure this thing out!!

I was reading on the bbc news website that the laws regarding IVF treatment has changed and as part of this, creation of "Chimeras" - a creature that is made from a mix of human and animal DNA - is banned. However, Transgenics are animals that contain human DNA. IS the difference simply that in transgenics, the DNA is inserted after fertilisation, rather than having the genes spliced? If anyone knows, I would be more than greatful to be enlightened.
