Why can you smell your own body odors and not get grossed out but smell others and almost die?

because your used to your own odor but not others

and structures in yur body like the nose and tongue are adapted to the stimulus presented to them so after presenting stimulus for long time it loses its value. so smelling your odors will stop and u cant smell it any more.

In high school I worked at a waste water treatment plant. The first week was the worst and I was convinced I would not make it threw the second. After a while it smelled like work to me. I cut grass and painted so I did not have to climb around in the poop! But you would be surprised what you can get used to! So even if you stink like a dumpster, somebody else could still stink to you! It's all about what you are used to.

You may get used to your own body odor and your brain sets that scent as "normal".

If you smell others, you interpret that as "gross" if it's a bad smell (to you).
That depends on your sense of smell.

I THINK it has a lot to do with genetics.
Since I know that people are attracted to scents that come from people with very different genetic coding from their own, it makes sense that we can tell our own various scents (the one in the studies, classically, is sweat from the armpits on a cotton swab).
Or, maybe we just get used to ourselves, because we already got grossed out and almost died, but
hey, we didn't did we?

I've read that our sense of smell is in the most "primitive" part of the brain. Maybe it originally helped us to distinguish our group from that other bunch in the neighboring cave. Maybe it is associated with our sense of self-preservation. Whatever it might be, it must have helped us survive to reproduce and pass along the trait and that is why we are still like this today.

I think we still get grossed out by our own, but we do know that it came from us. Other peoples are just nastier because of the thought of it. LOL, It is very strange but that has to be it.
